First grow room, couple questions.

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by Renot, Sep 28, 2010.

  1. Hello fellow blades, it's no surpise that my long-time lurking eye would eventually catch this section of the forums, and I've learned ALOT in the last couple weeks as plans formed in my head. I've read, read, and read some more, and am looking for some specialized help.

I'm converting a closet into my room, it's going to be 5' (L) x 2'(w) x 5'(h), there isn't any room for it to go, so that's as big as its going to get. My question is would a 6'' Exhaust fan be pointless compared to the 4''?

As for lights, I have 200w HPS I plan on using, as well as two 4' flouros I plan on running up the sides of the box, will this be enough light for 4-5 plants in this space, and any idea what the heat from the lights would be like?

I appericate the help blades :smoke:, really looking forward to starting my frist grow and want to make sure I have everything thought of before hand.

5x2x5=50 cubic feet in your grow
x3 for air movement=150 CFM fan
x2 for carbon filter=300CFM Rated fan

i have the four inch inline fan.. with insulated ducting and carbon scrubber in about the same size grow... my fan is so loud.. sounds like a plane is landing in there... crazy loud.. but only i can hear it... i think its paranoia...but..... after alot of research.. i should have spent the extra twenty dollars and gotten the six inch inline fan.. its the exact same size as the four inch... just a larger opening... and with a fan speed controller(get one with the four or six) it will slow the fan down.. move the air your looking for and be quieter...

so... if you didn't read that.. if you think your going to get the four inch.. get the six... bypass the four all together

  3. Thank you for your reply, I didn't even think to actually look at the size of the unit, just assumed bigger fan = bigger unit, and that was my only real conern. Appericate it.

Anyone have any input on the lights?

  4. first grow.. use cfl's... their cheap... others will say to switch right to hps mh, or hid...

in the end its personal opinion...

using mh hps.. you will get a larger yield..

its more math but... basically... plan on 1/2 a gram per watt per month of flowering

look at seed sites... look at maximum yield.... pic something big that you can grow in 5 feet of vertical space minus your grow medium and light and if you have to put a filter in there... even if you use a screen... thats not much room left... this limits what type of plant you can use

    once you have your strain

    get your tent

get the biggest light you feel comfortable cooling

get the tent or cab ready

    purchase your fan

    purchase your ducting

    make your soil

    ph your water

    start sprouting your beans
