Hey everyone. I’m new here as you can see, but have been involved in the cannabis industry (apart from growing) for around 5-6 years now. I’m preparing a garden area since I have received the go-ahead from my landlord. The only catch is that I have to grow other plants, fruit, and veggies out there as well. He/she is a great gardener and has a green thumb so I’ll receive extra help. I am in the process of tilling the soil in the area and have setup a NEST security camera as well as purchased fencing to grow ivy up for privacy (I live on a lake front property but there’s homes across on the other side). Now for my concerns; I spoke with my Cali plug and he said I’m going to have a lot of issues dealing with bugs and of course the quality won’t be as good if not grown hydroponically indoors. I’m a medical marijuana patient and used to high THC strains. Can I still grow some dank like you would find in a dispo if grown, harvested, and cured properly when outdoors? The biggest concern of all is going to be the smell during flowering. SWIM in the home is on probation and gets monthly visits from his PO. The garden is in the back of my home and will be completely sealed off but I’m truly worried about the smell since I picked a smelly strain like an idiot. I could opt in to growing indoors with a grow tent but this gives my spiteful landlord leverage over me and as I said, it’s really a package deal with the garden since she/he is going to be helping me with all the plants. There’s going to be 4 in total. I also have another friend saying that even if I do grow hydroponically indoors I’m really not going to see a large yield and that the most he’s ever gotten from an indoor grow off 1 plant was 3-4 ounces. tl;dr: OP is a first time grower in a residential neighborhood on a lake in a non-recreational (but decriminalized) state and is wondering if he can still grow some dank outdoors that will smoke just as good as indoor tree. He is also worried about the smell carrying out into the street or his neighbors who are about 100ft away from the garden smelling it. Someone in his residence is also on probation and worried about his/her PO smelling it when coming to the front door (plants would be in the back, out of view and won’t be able to be seen unless someone goes snooping in my backyard, and even then they will have no way of reaching them due to the mesh privacy fence). Am I being paranoid? Should I maybe get a grow tent and do a trial run outdoors with 1 plant and then grow the rest inside? Any advice or suggestions are highly appreciated. SWIM will be starting his grow journal and posting it here this week as well if anyone is interested. tl;dr2: sorry for typing so much lmao
u could always do both or build a small green house and filter the smell. green house would be u better opt if u wanna do out door u can cntrol temp to an extent and bugs aswell and ur still using sunlight. ull get much higher yeilds and ur quality will come in from a sealed controled green house. good luck happy growings.
Hey there, thanks for your input! I thought of an outdoor greenhouse as well but unfortunately I am on a bit of a budget and I imagine they cost a lot of money, no? Also excuse my noobish I’m literally brand new to growing.
depends on how u built it. i mean it can be as cheap as a couple hundred to a thoushand. but all u really need is a good poly with ventilation with some filters to control air environment
but all in all u get what u pay for. u could always do outdoor this year to obtain a larger budget for next season wich would benifit u cause as long as u take care of em u should get a good yield.
Decided to go with outdoor. Currently germinating these babies (they just landed today), so wish me luck guys!
You need to find better people for advice mate. Your "cali plug" says indoors hydro weed is better quality. Thats a lie. Ive been growing hydro 5 years and theres no comparing to shite and sunshine. My weeds good but you can tell organic straight away when you get it. Its better. And the vast majority of sensible hydro growers wont dispute it. Second dude says indoor hydro yields are poor. Well theres a 22oz auto in my pic that proves hes just an idiot lol. Best outdoors grower ive met is a dude called @912greenskell on another forum. Google him. Grows the biggest plants youve ever seen in nothing but horseshit, a cup of dolomite and some sort of pk booster for bloom. Its not my area, just a hydro monkey but check him out. Easiest method and best results ive ever seen.
Thanks for the reply man. There’s a lot to learn for me I suppose, I was just always under the impression that with climate control and such that comes with growing indoors helped produce better bud but I suppose this is a myth. I guess it gives you more control of your crop I suppose and pest control? Anyhow I have 3 of them outdoors right now about a week in and 2 are looking fantastic but the 3rd doesn’t seem to look as healthy. What I did was opt out from buying anything chemically modified or even foxfarm and just bought some straight cow compost and regular top soil and mixed them together 50/50. I’ll be making a separate thread soon with my progress but they seem to be doing pretty good. Since I’m doing all outdoor I figured I would germinate the last 2 I was saving for an indoor grow but figured I’d give them a go outside while it’s still season. Anyhow I’m letting them work their magic. But hopefully it’s not too late for me to plant them outdoors because I don’t think my second batch will be ready until around November, whereas the ones that I started I figure will be ready around late September/early October. Luckily the climate here doesn’t get too cold.
Were all still learning mate. Even the dudes that been growing 30 years still pick up new tricks and technologies change. Just gotta master your own surroundings. Indoor growing does give you an element of environmental control but its not exactly straight forward. Depending on your local climate it could be easier to get a decent result indoors but generally speaking you cant beat the sun with an led. Hardly a shock though, 200quid worth of cables vs a million mile wide ball of flaming gas lol. Sure someone will stop by shortly that knows about soil though. Theres lots of good dirt chuckers round here so just post a comment every few hours to bump you back up the top of the pile and someone will see it eventually. Doesnt usually take long.
