First grow: My seedling is shriveling up

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by RileyXX, Jun 14, 2019.

  1. I had 2 seeds unfortunately only 1 sprouted. This is my first grow so I'm expecting to make some mistakes. My seedling is about a week old and it seems to have been doing great until today I checked on it and one of the leaves is shriveled up. Any idea what the issue could be here?

    1. I have it growing in an empty room with the window open and the heat on room temp is around 80 degrees.

    2. I watered the soil before planting the seed about a week ago haven't watered it since (it's still moist)

    3. This is my soil https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N1UXYCC

    4. This is the pot I'm using (5.75 inch) https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B078MQ9BYR

Side note, it also seemed to be growing fairly quickly until recently in the past day or two it seems to have slowed down a lot.

  2. Soil is too hot. Can you carefully remove the soil and repot....by too hot I mean to many nutrients. You need a more basic mix with no nutes or barely any....none really though.

Best thing to start in, in my opinion, is just coco coir and a bit of perlite/vermiculate and some vermicompost. Alternatively in a mix of peat, perlite and vermicompost.

  3. Thanks I'll try that. I have some organic soil with "less" nutrients I was debating repotting it but I was afraid the switch might kill it. How long would you suggest before adding nutrients? My plant is just over a week old.

  4. When the cotyledons go yellow is when it needs food. Normally good for 10 days in plain peat mixes etc...if you add vermicompost 14 days or more.

Just a simple lightmix soil will do at least for the first 4 weeks. Repotting at this young age may well kill it...its a risk but that soil is way too hot - you will be riddled with problems throughout your grow now if you keep it in there.

I dont use any 'hot soil' mixes until they are big enough to go into 3-4 gallon pots and even then only a max of half that pot will contain soil with feed in. By the time the plant is big enough to go into 10 gallon plus pots then I go all out with some badass soil.

Really depends on how you want to grow - organic or chems....dry feed, bottled, teas, mulching, foliar feeding...there are so many options and variations.

  5. Thanks. I went ahead and just repotted it into my light organic soil mix. Fingers crossed

  6. Nice one. Have you made up any teas before? Teas are good for helping the soil life recover and in turn your plant. Add microbes to your plants soil and leaves. They will help it recover and also protect against pest. The seedling is suspectable at the minute.

Are you wanting to go organic all the way? If so then read 'Teaming with Microbes'. It's a must read it will save you 10 years learning by error and reading and asking question on forums. All anyone can give on here is snippets and can never really know fully whats going on because its not their grow. Good luck and much love from Europe.

  7. Hmm I'll give that tea trick a shot. Yeah I'm trying to go 100% organic from here on out.

Update on my seedling tho, it dieed today. I think the transplant killed it. Lesson learned. I have 6 more seeds coming in next week. Blue Dream, OG Kush, Girl Scout Cookies, Green Crack & 2 other random ones. Going with non autos this time for various reasons mainly so I can clone them. Hope it goes better this time lol

  8. Blue dream produces some nice solid, frosty and beautifully fruity/cheesy weed. Love the stuff. I've been smoking OG Kush for 6 months. Decent strength and smooth but lacks a strong flavour imho. GCS Is a Cali strain I actually like, nice solid nugs again.
