Ok folks im pretty new to GC.. i have been reading all i can as fast as i can as much as i can... Im currently been out of work for the last 4 weeKs (multiple surgerys on me left eye) so to bascily flat out say.. Im dead broke.. i know someone that sells and all my friends smoke so they have been a huge help keeping me sparked up... anywho! I was reading a grow journal when i remembered i had saved a seed i found in a crappy bag i had picked up... I got pretty bent but the stuff was not the prettiest i have ever seen.. so what the hell.. i took grandpas guide to germinating and droped that bad boy in luke warm water and checked if it would sink.. about less then a day later that bad boy sank! so i opened up the garage found some scotts potting soil (unopened!) and stuck it in a big plastic cup watered but didnt flood it....put plastic over the top and stuck the under light.. if it does end up sprouting im going to scrounge up some loose change and get a couple of cheep CFls but until then i want to see what happens.. in short WISH ME LUCK! if i get some growth i will be sure to post many pictures.. im sure rite now you guys dont want to see a picture of soil in a cup =)
Good luck indeed ! There is a wealth of knowledge available on this site, aswell as many dedicated, experianced growers here to help you out. The key is reading and research, the more you know, the easier to grow.
Ok sorry its so soon.. but i have questions already.... I put a ziplock bag over the top of the cup.. 1. Should I take that big air bubble i captured from squeezing the bag on top? or does that not matter? 2. Lets say i do have a working seed.. will it even sprout without proper lighting? i have 2 dedicted bulbs about 10" and 14" away they are not normal light bulbs but i honestly couldnt tell you exeactly what kind they were.. 3. There is some definet condinsation starting to build up inside the bag..Is that good? bad? or just normal? I am guessing wet soil+heat from lamps+air in bag = condinsation so im not really worried about it
What's up, dude? Here is some of my experience... lol. 1. I don't understand your qustion. Pics? 2.Don't give your germinating seeds light until after they pop out of the soil a little. Usually I wait until you see the first leaves opening. Turn the light off immediately. 3. The condensation is fine. Seedlings and clones usually need 95%-100% humidity to grow their absolute best. That's why you are putting the bags over them, to keep the moisture in. Good luck, and please, post pics so everyone can help to the best of thier ability. Keep asking questions and reading as much as possible.
It's OK to light it while still in the soil, the light is a waste but any warmth might speed things along, and unless you are checking it constantly the sproutling will get light as soon as it pops the soil. Also OK to wait, just get light on there right away. You need to know more about those bulbs, MJ needs certain types of light. And depending on the light you may need to move them closer. Check the lighting guide link in my sig. You should try to use something other than that Scotts, it has added phosphorous. I don't think it has much of anything else added, so it's not terrible, but you don't want to be feeding your seedling in the first 2 weeks or so, it's too sensitive. How are your conditions otherwise? Temps? pH? RH? Plans for nutes? Fresh air circulation? Lightproof? You'll need to manage all of these and more for a successful grow. Read up on the grow guides and sticky posts. Oh, and be careful smoking MJ after eye surgery, it affects the eyeball.
Thanks very much for the reply folks...i just turned off the light.. I know exactly what im going to be using.. and as far as picking up the items its just a matter of 1hr for full prodcution/building since prep work is about done.. i cleaned it out completly (you can eat off of it) lined the entire inside with clean white printer paper... My grow box is a very big chest i had for a while.. its about 4 feet wide 2 1/2' tall/deep im going to be using multiple low wattage Cfls (only one plant) that i saw at home depot and circulating for now with a normal stand up fan that i cut the legs off of to make more compact (fits perfect).. Later on i plan on cutting holes on each end for higher powered pc facs and making light traps around them and smoking after eye surgery.. hehe funny you said that..i thought the same thing.. but to be honest as much as she said the pain is minimal..that crap hurt! well its more like a huge discomfort for a day or two.. so my exact words were me: "i need to ask you something in confidence.. can i do that?" doc: "of course" me: " I smoke marijuana from time to time (daily)" doc: **smiles** "It wont affect you negativly one bit.. enjoy" Me: ::dance!:: ::Gets camera::
