first grow lighting

  1. I went to my local hardware store and checked out the different light sources available. What I found was this ... a 30w fluro with 2000 lumens, a 60w halogen with 1880 lumens and a 200w with 3880 lumens. My question is which light source would be the best for just 1 to 3 plants  The wattage and lumen output that I put down are as shown on the light package. Any help at all would be great

  2. If those are the only choices, I'd pick the floros and get 2 or more sets, however, for best results a HID light works best and will pay for themselves on the very first harvest. HID = HPS/MH

  3. Halogen lights only work to kill your plant. Get the fluoros, you'll need a few for 3 plants. Ideally you want two different kinds for the two stages of growth, daylight for vegetation and soft/warm white for flowering. Try wal mart too if you live near one, they carry a good selection of compact fluorescent lights (CFL's). I wrote a little guide on my experiences with them, check it out (look down).

  4. Flouros all the way! Get like 2 or 3 4t tubes and check out the CFLs that they have.

  5. Ditto that halogens generate way too much heat for the amount of light output, and not sure the spectrum is right either.

What kind of light is the 200w/3880 lumens? Whatever it is, it is converting very little energy consumption to light.

  6. It's gotta be 200w equivalent, 50ish watts maybe? 42w=150w @2700 lumens.

  7. thanks for all the help. The 200watt bulb is incandesante, i hope i spelled it right.

  8. Oh yeah don't bother with incandescents. Get big CFL's. How many plants are you growing?

  9. I decided on only one plant at a time, until i know what I'm doing a little more. I found some soft white CFL but no warm or daylight. would adding more soft white CFL's work for flowering or would it be better to spend more money and get a warm fluro off the internet  I also found some Perlite and Vermiculite at the Walmart ( pretty happy about that ). After Mixing my soil will I have to add fertilizer right away or will it kill the seedling  The only other things that I'm worrying about are Cloning, Topping and Soil. I read a lot of the post on the 2 but never seem to get a solid answer. At what time can you start Topping, do you need to put some kind of stimulante after you have cut the top and can you use the top that you cut off for a clone  Oh ... and would a 20-20-20 fertilizer be alright for veg and 15-30-15 alright for flowering  Thanks again these posts are really helping me out:hello:
