Well I finally decided to try my hand at growing. I'll be using in my 3x3ish closet so I won't have a ton of room, but it will be a good into to growing. Maybe if this goes well I will upgrade to a larger grow tent. I will document the entire process from start to finish here. It will be a good record for my own use and hopefully it will help others learn from my successes and failures. I'm going to try to DIY all of the major components, and will be buying things as I need them. I feel like this will make the experience more personal, plus it would save quite a bit of cash. I will be growing in soil for simplicity's sake. 2 days ago (Sept 3) I ordered 5 seeds from Nirvana Seeds. They are feminized autoflowering northern lights. The ordering process went smoothly and they have kept me updated as to the current status of the order. My seeds are currently packaged and waiting to be shipped. I'm not expecting huge yields due to the small space, autoflowering choice, and lack of experience; but in reality it doesn't take much to justify the cost. I'm expecting the seeds to arrive in a couple of weeks so in the meantime I will be prepping my grow area. I'm thinking I will use disposable plastic cups to germinate in, then will move them to bigger pots or small buckets when the time comes. I am leaning toward the Fox Farms organic soil and I have not decided on what brand of nutrients to use. If I can find a cheap source of mylar, I will line the walls of the close with that and will start out with a couple of CFLs in a lamp with a clip. Acutally, I will probably do the entire grow with CFL - but one thing at a time.
The seeds still have not arrived (crossing my fingers that they don't haven't been confiscated) but I have bought some more supplies and have made a few small changes in my plans. I ordered a 150w HPS. I had originally intended to go CFL only, but decided to give this HPS light a shot. I am going to supplement with CFLs. I also decided to start out with hydroponics. I'm going to do a rubbermaid style container with 4 plants. I also ordered some nutes, a TDS meter, gravel, net pots, and some other small things. As for the grow closet, I'm going to attach panda material to the back side of the door frame so that it creates a lightproof zippered door inside the real closet door. I'm going to also mount a small wood panel to the inside of the door at the top. I'll run my exhaust and intake through that wood panel. This will allow me to keep the closet door open so that the closet can vent. If i need the room to be stealthy I can close the closet door at any time. Hopefully these seeds and supplies will come in soon. I'm ready to start growing.
My seeds came in the mail on Thursday. Now I am just waiting on the rest of my equipment to be delivered. According to tracking, the rockwool will be here tomorrow. So I have put the seeds in a damp paper towel which is inside a ziplock bag uner a 27w CFL for a little warmth (my closet stays in the low 70s). So hopefully the seeds will be cracked by tomorrow or the next day when I have my rockwool.
im not positive, but when germinating seeds, I think they need to be in a dark area. I usually put mine in a metal or plastic container, and place it on my stereo reciever, of CPU for warmth. 48 hours later i get tap roots . I could be wrong about the whole light thing though. and good call with the HPS, what kind of nutes you going with?
LOL fail of the day. I had a friend who tried this n crisped its roots. deserves a like for making me laugh when i saw the picture tho
Well they popped and sprouted fine. About 24 hours after putting them in the paper towel I moved the seedlings into the rockwool and they are continuing to do well - starting to see the first signs of tiny leaves on a couple of them. I will upload pics later tonight.
Subbed to see this shits, click some pics of the tent and closet. Move that seed into the tent with the 27w bulb on it in the rockwool. Put a plastic baggy over the top of it to keep moister in.
Here is a pic of the seedlings in the rockwool under 27w at the moment. This my grow space. Not very big but I am making do with what I have. The guy I bought my hydroponics supplies from on ebay still has not shipped and isn't responding to my emails so I'm having to file a case against him. I think I may just go ahead and do soil on this grow since it is my first. Will probably go to Lowes tomorrow for soil and pots.
