Hey guys, I have never grown before besides a few cacti back in elementary and of course my chia pet. This is more of an experimental grow so I am not expecting huge buds. I'm more so looking to learn about the process so I can fine tune my technique (to get big buds ). I was amazed when I found this seed as it is probably the best sack I have had in a while. I was told it was "Chocolate Chunk" but you know how that goes. I have decided to grow on a whim. I read up a little and here's what I've got planned so far. The dimensions of my available working area are 4'x2'x8'6". Any tips appreciated. I got a shop light and put 2 T8 32w (temp. 3500k) tubes in it. I also have a 13w CFL in the room but this won't add much. I'm guessing my total output is somewhere around 3000 lumens. As you can see the seed has not sprouted yet but I have the light there just in case I'm not here when she pops. I have a heater/cooler/fan next to the potential but the breeze is very light so I do not foresee heat being an issue. The closet also has a sliding door so there is plenty of ventilation. The glass thing is a thermometer. I also have a negative ion generating air purifier on the way. The walls are already painted white and I was wondering if that would produce more light than alum. foil? It seems as though light is reaching all sides of what will become the plant but I am concerned that I may not have enough lighting. Also, if this seed does not sprout I have plenty back ups so I can always start over. Let me know your thoughts!
I would definitely throw more than one seed into the mix as the odds of you getting atleast 1 female will greatly increase. Nothing worse than caring for your one plant for 6-8 weeks and finding out it's a boy and wasted all that time. Also never, I repeat never use aluminum foil. The folds and wrinkles could send a strong beam of light onto one specific part of the plant and burn it. Also white walls are more reflective than aluminum foil. Also id switch out all those bulbs for the highest actual watt 6500k CFL's for veg and the same for flowering but 2700k. Happy Growing!!!
I will probably be getting new lights within a few days. This light was more of a precautionary light to provide the early sprout with at least something. I was also unsure of how I was going to set it up. I have not planned very well as you can tell. However, I have heard that Fluorescents are sufficient for seedling growth and will be switching the lighting before it hits veg. I was also wondering if anyone has any tips on how to set up my lighting (direction, distance, number of lights, etc.). I am only planning on trying one plant at a time as I have a limited space and odor will become an issue if I get too ambitious. I was also thinking about what I would do if it turned out to be a boy and I was told that I could use it to make hash. Has anyone heard of this or was I right in my disbelief?
Man you have lots of questions. I grow in a 2x4x7ft tent. So our dimensions are similar. I just do 2 big plants w/ a 400w light. The amount of weed you can grow is directly proportionate to the wattage of your lights. Mo light=mo betta. Get as much light as you can a) afford, and b) cool properly. Fuck planting regular seeds. Get feminized ones offline. They might cost you a few bucks but there are good reasons to spend that little bit. 1) you can pick a strain that has qualities you are looking for 2) you can avoid having to throw out male plants and risk pollinating your females thus producing seeds. 3) other reasons I can't think of right now. I've ordered quite a few times from "the single seed centre", and have had no issues whatsoever. Some people also like the attitude seedbank. Both ship to the US. Also, aluminum foil sucks. It reflects alot of light sure, but it absorbs alot of the spectrum that's available to the plant. So it'll be al lit up, but it wont be getting as much of the light that it needs, (if that makes sense). Use mylar. You can get it by the roll on ebay or from HTGsupply, or you can wait till around xmas and get the mylar wrapping paper. If you're dead set on using CFLs, study this guide. http://forum.grasscity.com/absolute-beginners/122824-kamels-cfl-guide.html Work w/ your heater, cooler, fans etc before you start your grow and make sure you can keep the temps in the mid 70s and the humidity under 50%. Note that your humidity can spike in the dark periods during flower. Do not use miracle grow. Time released nutes will kill your plants. Also, be cautious of cheap soil because in some cases you can buy soil which already contains eggs of things that will try and hatch and eat your plants. I'm not sure how well the negative ion thing will work when they start stinking big. Look into a carbon filter. That's all the advice I could come up w/ off the top of my head. The best advice really, is to get everything up and running, then start a grow journal. People will come to it and answer your questions and give you advice, plus you have a cool place to post pics of the grow. The journal section of this site is bad ass. If it's out there to be known, when it comes to growing weed, it's written someplace on grasscity already. Best of luck dude.
I found some bulbs. I will be going to get these today Shop GE 2-Pack 32-Watt T8 48" Fluorescent Light Bulb at Lowes.com No sprout today but the dirt is moving around After a little more research I have come up with a couple more ideas. I have covered the pot with plastic wrap to allow the seed to begin sprouting. Also, I turned the light off and am planning on waiting until sprouting begins. I'll keep everyone updated
