  1. Thanks trapper for the setup info.

I use the setup you have for my seedlings before the weather gets warmer here and the 400HPS I use is OK for heat but the smell of the plants is always just rude.

When I went indoors last here for a November Harvest, I got myself a decent Charcoal Filter exhaust system in the room. Cost $3000 but BIG improvement!!

  2. What a beautiful girl you have! How old is she?
Props on the setup too, very tidy. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on this journal, I can tell already that you're going to end up with some great dope.

  3. Thanks colour, the girl is about 5 weeks I think, just put her in flower last week. Pretty exiting on a first grow. Thanks for the kind words and taking a look.

  4. What is the noise like for that kind of set up? loud?

  5. I have to play a little catch-up.

Having gone through the same process fairly recently, I am of the opinion that research will only take you so far, whereas just getting on with it is sure to get you where you need to go, though there will be some bumps along the way. My first grow yielded 7.7 grams of light, fluffy bud. Beat that!

    Bits and bobs?

    Well, sure, bits and bobs.

You might consider mixing in some perlite when you trade up to a larger pot. or next time around if you are staying in those pots for the duration.

I had that problem on my first grow, big time. I was using very toxic, very dense soil. Nasty stuff. The density made flushing absolute torture. What you have is much better, but it probably is denser than you'd like it to be. One part perlite to 2 parts soil would go a long way toward alleviating that problem, but there is no easy way to retroact your soil composition. That ship has sailed...

...though I suppose the ship could always return to port. :p

I've read more than once the assertion that pebbles at the bottom of the pot is a bad idea (with no explanation), but I've also seen people do it in grow journals with no apparent ill effects.

    Nice photographs!

I flowered 4 males in a row before I found my first female. Five of the seven bagseed plants I flowered were males. Then I bought some feminized seeds. I salute your good fortune.

OK, I'm all caught up. You have an absolutely fantastic first grow going on here, Trapper. Your plant looks really healthy. It looks to me like you did plenty of research. I think going organic was a smart move. I haven't done an organic grow, but it seems to me that you have more latitude on your soil pH when you stay organic.

  6. Hey alatar, thanks for all the kind words and all the help,
Yes I know we OZ dwellers have a funny dialect with odd word combinations... to be honest I put some bits in but I have no idea who bob is, or what he and the other bobs are doing in my grow box!

The bar is set for me to obtain 7.8 gms of light fluffy bud! callenge accepted.:D:D

I think im going to incorporate coco coir in my next grow, then again if I get a decent grow out of organic soinl mixed with Perlite, I do it again. I want to try alot of methods though, I love learning what works best. I'll let you know about the pebbles.

If I knew how to multi quote this would have made alot more sense.

  7. Nice little setup you got here. I love the lst.

    Nice one fella.

  8. Thanks for stopping by. I'm really liking LST too, I cant let her get too tall so it's a good solution.

  9. So just a quick update, Poppy has changed direction after her LST and is now looking skyward.

Also I have heard so much about this stuff and so many people swear by it so I thought I should give it a go, Is there anything I should be aware of when using molasses? Help appreciated.

  10. Dig the Emmett Kelly doll! I had one as a kid, same material and colors, different pose. It's probably still in my mother's house somewhere. That thing is from the Great Depression. The character, made famous by the circus clown, Emmett Kelly, was known as Weary Willie. He was supposed to be a hobo.

I have not figured out how the multi-quote option works. But in the editor, you can convert text to a quote by highlighting the text and clicking the Quote icon on the editor toolbar.

  11. Thanks Alatar, Thanks for the wiki link too, I had heard many a story about this doll, now I know! Always love a good hobo.

Can any one give me a few tips on fan leaf trimming? There are a few that are in the way of new growth and I just need to know if it is ok to remove them. I searched and found a few people who had done trims without problems, (and people who had almost chopped the plant down) but is there a method I should know about?

  12. I have only pruned for two reasons. In 12/12, I've cleared out undergrowth that was not receiving adequate light and in veg I've pruned tops when the plant was growing too tall while waiting for a slot in my flowering space.

I have never pruned fan leaves to uncover tops, and I wonder if it's a good idea to do so. The fan leaves store up the energy that gets used in bud production, or that's the perceived wisdom that gets passed around from grower to grower on these boards. So, at best, pruning fan leaves to expose bud sites is a trade off. For this reason, many growers eschew pruning. There are other growers, however, experienced, successful growers, who do prune fan leaves to uncover bud sites.

My experience is that LST exposes bud sites and stimulates branching, which generates new bud sites. Then, in early flower, the "stretch" that normally occurs has the tops reaching for daylight, accomplishing on their own what I might otherwise have accomplished by pruning.

Some growers use string, paper clips, pipe cleaners and the like to reposition fan leaves, a compromise position between pruning and leaving things just as they are.

  13. damn dude i wish i could get plants to grow out here they always die every single time

  14. Nice grow dude... Are you planing on using MH light for flowering too? MH is blue spectrum, perfect for vegetating, not so much for flowering... HPS gives the red spectrum.

IMO... I think you will get way more than 7½ grams... With a screen, you should obtain a yield of 1 oz per sq/ft ... Im guessing , you have approx 2 sq ft, but I don't know how long your going to veg... As far as pruning, if you prune during veg, example would be to cut all your tops off to make clones, they will all double their tops... Best time to prune is 2 or 3 weeks before flower, giving them time to reproduce tops... Try not to prune and switch lights, or nutrient change, all at once... Everything you do to a plant, from LST, pruning, topping for clones, light durations, PH , PPM Nutrient levels, all that shit can stress the plant and stun growth, if not consistent.

Thx for stoppin by my grow, nice to make another friend in the city of grass.

Pot could grow in Antarctica... Indoors

  15. Thanks alatar, I have had a good look over the girl and have only manouvered the fan leaves to expose the potential bud sites (using small ties) I havent found any positive news on trimming fan leaves, so far everyone has said that they leave them on. Thanks so much for all this info It really helps.

Thanks heaps Uwill, I am actually using the MH for flowering, I'll probably get a HPS for the next one. There is also a small 64w fluro (warm) Hoping this might help a little.
This is a bit of a practice run. Thanks for the help brother.

  16. There is so much info on this great site man, you can find all you need to grow nice healthy plants anywhere. I wish you luck.

    Gday trapper,

I trim the fan leaves by cutting some of the fingers away while leaving the lef and stalk intact. I find this increases the plants tolerance levels and also encourages greater light penetration.

You will find what works for you...

  18. Thanks reg, i will give this a go in a week or so if the fan leaves take over a bit too much. What exactly do you mean by tolerance levels? Suseptability to stress?

So a little update on the girly, I finally gave her a fan to keep the air moving around properly, (so hard to find desk fans in winter!) also I got a small yellow insect catcher (the sticky kind) because I saw a little bug in there amongst the folage.

Also I have noticed after these few short days she is really trying to show her stuff. (This is the closest I can get to bud porn so be nice):D:D

Hopefully it wont be too long untill I can show you some real stuff. I have to say I am one proud father! (couldn't do this without GC!!):D

two days later and she is reallt pushing now. The speed is amazing, fed her 10ml of natures own super bloom two days ago and the difference is great! she seems really happy.:D:D
