First DWC grow droopy leaves

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by crazy4life14, Feb 9, 2011.

  1. So I started my first DWC grow recently.

I had 2 plants that were in soil for a week and a half and were then transplanted to a 10 gallon tote 6 days ago. They were both droopy for a day and a half and one of them perked quickly and the other is still droopy. The one that perked up quickly has roots already growing out the bottom of the net pot and the other still doesn't.

Does this plant just need more time to get over the stress of transplant or what?

Also 2 days ago I purchased a PPM meter and finally checked my tap water and it was 800 PPM!!! So I went and purchased some RO water and changed the rez today and added nutes (floranova) till my PPm was at 350. My Ph is also sitting at 6 right now and has been steady. Rez temps range from 60 at night to 68-73 during the day. I have been adding 3% H202 at 3oz a gallon since the start since my rez temps go a little above 70. The air temp ranges from 60 at night to 70-77 during the day.

Oh and one last thing....the plant was drooping like this before I took it out of the soil and put it in the DWC. I had over watered it a little bit. So maybe the stress of over water and transplant just hit this plant hard?

Now I come to the next set of questions I have... I also started 4 seeds in these organic bark pellets that are PH nutrual and they sprouted in about 2 days. I put them into the dwc and they have been growing so slow. They are now 2 weeks old and 2 of them are just starting to have roots barely poke out the bottom of the net pots. They only have there first set of 3 fingered leaves and are starting to produce the second set. Is the growth so slow because the PPM was at 800 or is it something else?

The second pic is of the 10 gallon tote that has the 2 transplanted plants (the droopy one in the back and the not droopy one in the front) and one of the 4 seedlings I was referring to (in the middle). The other 2 pics are just the droopy plant.

  2. And no the stem isn't droopy just the leaves. I had the plant tied down when it was in soil so it appears that it is falling over even though it is not.

  3. Anyone? Plant appears to be drooping more now!

  4. That ppm seems way too high! I'd fix the pH and ppms and give it some time

  5. To be honest I dont check my ppm in my DWC and I know two other people that dont and never have a problem with that.. I have transplanted a plant from soil to DWC and it took about a week for her to perk back up. I also tried to put young plants with almost no roots in a DWC and they didnt do so well for awhile. IMO as long as they are green keep them there they will live or die. If your scared of them dieing I would put them back in dirt and just wait for clones to stick in that bucket.

  6. man r u kidding, u gotta stay on top of the ppm and the ph, LOL!

  7. Sorry, just read the entire thread, think about this for a second.

If it was drooping because of over watering, and u decided to pull it, you just flipped that plants stress life upside down, it will take even longer to perk up, it may be a good thing. When you over water, its a few more days longer than usual before you will water again.
Well u just put it into hydroponics it is getting a new life now, its got to adapt to the change, keep ur fingers crossed!

  8. I check PH two times a day, I just dont check ppm and know two other people in DWC systems that dont either.

  9. they doing any better now?

  10. No it hasnt perked up yet but it is still looking good other than being droopy. Also I noticed that the roots are now starting to grow out of the bottom of the net pots so I assume that it will perk up here shortly.

But now I am experiencing another problem with all but 2 plants. Check out the pics and my info at this thread and PLEASE HELP!!!

  11. You gotta be checking PH and PPM every day. It is very important to keeping plants alive. I check every day and adjust as needed.

  12. im getting a tds meter soon

  13. I am doing my first DWC grow in 3 gal tubs and have found that I need to adjust PH 2 times a day at a minimum. Next time I think I will go with 5 gal as PH will be more stable.

...but for example, this morning at 6am I adjusted ppm to 450 (with 55ppm tap water) and 5.8PH...came home from work at 4pm and PPM was 580 and PH was 6.18....and my plants are pretty much exactly at the same stage as the OP.

  14. With my neuts the ph has to be adjusted daily during veg. But in bloom it never needs to be adjusted. It's always perfect.
