First attempt at Cannabutter

  1. So last night i got the urge to make some cannabutter and put it in some brownie nix. i looked up recipes on how to do it and decided on using 7grams of blue dream with one stick of butter (majority rule) as most post that i read used that same ratio. after simmering on low for appox 50 minutes i strained the butter and only got 1/4cup of cannabutter back. my recipe called for 1/2 cup of butter so i just added 1/4 of regular butter to fulfill the recipe. the end result was weaker brownies then what i wanted. i have ate 3 and feel a nice little buzz. any suggestions?

  3. Well, I'd imagine that by cutting your cannabutter with the regular, you may have played a bit with the potency. Did you use a 8tbsp stick of butter or was it a half stick? 8tbsp is 1/2cup...unless my math is severely off somewhere. 
    1oz per lb. of butter (7grams per stick, using 8tbsp sticks) is a good rule of thumb that I've had regular success with. Although I'm sure others have had success using slightly different ratios. 
     
    Personally, I like to freeze my butter for 24hrs after the extraction process, but before straining the material out the butter. You can remelt the mix afterward to complete the straining process. Then you can bag it, or use it right off.
     
    Soy Lecithin helps to, but isn't required. It's a emulsifier, and helps with the extraction. 1tbsp per stick.
     
    So yea, something like this:
    -Decarb
    -Extraction/transfer
    -Freeze 24hrs
    -Melt and strain.
