Hey everyone. Trying to get an aero system set up. I've spent waaaay too much time on this thing so far and keep having huge leaking problems with the bin. Here's a link for what I've got going. Had to get rid of using the black storage bin after going through 3 of them. Every single one ended up getting a small crack in the bottom. (27 gallon bin advertised that it can hold up to 750 lbs. with the word "tough" on the sticker, but for some reason 5 gallons of water caused it to crack. I hate marketing. Home depot was also getting a little upset with me returning every single one. Don't blame me for the shitty products you carry. Chalk up the $45, and return the rest of their products to the manufacturer for false advertising and poor quality.) So I ended up getting another bin of similar size, this time made by rubbermaid. The plastic is more flexible and hasn't cracked, but now I realize the the lid doesn't fit very tightly (it actually hangs over the edges quite a bit). So water collects on the top of the lid (naturally) and but then runs out the sides instead of back into the reservoir. (GRRR!!) I've added some weather stripping around the edges of the inside, which helps a little, but it still leaks quite a bit since the lid isn't tight. (Getting a washing machine pan to put under your bin is a life saver. Otherwise I would owe a lot of money to fix the floor.) So, my question now is if anyone has a recommendation for a brand of bin that can stay sealed when the lid is closed. I'll probably add weather stripping again and possibly get some spring clamps to help keep it tight. My other thoughts were possibly adding a splash guard around the inside of the lid that would guide all of the condensed water back into the reservoir. But then I would have to find a way to make this splash guard stay in place etc. and I think by the time I got that to work it wouldn't be worth it, that I should just get a new bin that's designed correctly. Any thoughts appreciated! Love you guys!
What if you used a weight or other means to lower the center of the lid? That way water would run down to the middle of the inside of the lid, instead of running toward the edge. That and clamping down the edge with the weatherstripping/gasket ought to take care of it.
