Finishing techniques?

Discussion in 'Advanced Growing Techniques' started by Glodenglow1, Nov 29, 2010.

  1. Do any of you increase the # of hours of darkness as you get towards the end??

Do any of you like to drop the temps in your grow room during the dark hours towards the very end? I've heard that "freezing" them a bit towards the very end can make them produce some extra resin.....

    Any thoughts would be appreciated

  2. i do not participate an any of the above-stated techniques, anymore...
I have TRIED the "leave in the dark for 24 AND 48 hours" before harvest, while the other plants were just took out right away. After the 24 hour period, i pulled 2 of the 4 plants remaining in dark, with no difference between the ones pulled immediately.. Same for the 2 that i left in for 48 hours.. nothing. I DO however, believe that the best way to finish up your harvest is just with a thorough flushing for 2 weeks, and maybe some molasses in the mix for the first week of flush... I would like to see photographic proof, proving me wrong. but thus far, i haven't seen this proof..

I do keep my room cooler in flower than veg....72 instead of 78. But I dunno how much of a difference it makes on potency or yield......with AK47 the lower temps seems to keep the smell less noticeable, when I walk in from outside at 78, the smell was overpowering, but at 72 hardly noticeable...my 2 cents

The only other finishing "trick" I do is molasses after about 3-4 weeks of flowering I add a tblsp/gal once a week...it makes a big difference! Best $4 you will spend on your grow. Use unsulphured Blackstrap from a health food store or organic grocer. This is not a flushing agent as the previous poster uses it for, but a supplement to the nutrients your already using...it helps the plant use the nutes you have, better. So if you decide to use it, use it for what it does, not as a flush...there are much better flushing agents out there, and I do flush a couple times in the last two weeks using only pure water. No, it does not make your smoke sweeter or stickier...LOL!

  4. sorry, i was unclear in my post. i don't use it as a finishing agent or flushing agent, etc.
I use molasses ALL THE WAY up until the last week, throughout the entire grow, and cut it off at the last week.

  5. i tried increasing the dark time by up to 3 whole days (72 hours).....i really didnt see a difference at all.

i also use molasses thru the entire grow every other feeding except with seedlings/cuttings.

never dropped the temps on them before....bringing any plant to near freezing conditions has bad news written all over it.

    obviously flush...

dry as slowly as possible....faster dries make for a harsher smoke

and maybe try a vanilla bean in the jar during cure. helps make the smoke less harsh as well.(this will not make ur buds taste vanilla when you smoke em)

It's cool mcinnc...I kinda figured you musta mis-typed that, cuz other than that you sounded like you knew what you were talkin about. I really think the molasses does more good by far than any other $4 dollars you will spend on a grow, so we're in complete agreement on that! :smoke:

And yea, freezing does not sound good at all...6 degrees will make a diff tho as far as smells go

  7. Would you add molasses to the rez in a drip system? I added florualicious to mine and it made it grow snot everywhere.....
