I notice a lot of people asking the same basic question of where do I find weed at? Here is what I've learned after two years of living in a small town with no connections.

When it comes to hunting for a dealer you have to be smart, like a detective. Remember what you are looking for is illegal, it is supposed to be difficult. It protects them and you.

Put on your thinking cap and be prepared to put in a little effort.

    1. First consider how big your town is. If it has a population of less than 30,000 you are in for a difficult task at finding someone local. Your best bet in small towns is try to find a friend of a friend, but that can take a long time. Most towns of around 10, 000 will have a head shop or a brew thru that carries paraphernalia, frequent that joint. Go in several times a week, buy a soda or whatever but make small talk with the customers and the staff, eventually you will hit on someone buying papers or blunts, see if they are friendly and see if they have a connection.

    2. Small towns suck for buying for a number of reasons. You have fewer sellers and the big reason is the cops have a lower level of crimes to investigate; in larger towns there is not time to bust people over dubs. Small town folks are fearful of marijuana and the local politicians and law enforcement are going to be looking to bust even small town dealers AND users. Read your newspapers and your court reports, if they have a lot of busts of folks for possession then you are in the wrong town. You need to go hunting in greener pastures.

    3. Use Google and find the nearest large city or college town, that is where you want to be. I suggest finding one with a population over 30,000. That is your new hunting ground. Plan a day trip or a half day trip there, plan to take in a movie so your trip is not wasted if you end up empty handed. Go online and check their local police reports and court records, they should still have drug busts but not a bunch of reports of busting kids with a few grams of weed.

    4. Don’t go alone if you don’t have to. If you don’t plan on getting out of your car for long take a dog. Jackers don’t rob folks with dogs.

    5. On your day trip separate your cash from your wallet, better yet get a throw away wallet you can put like $40 max in. Keep your real wallet locked in the glove box. Once you are in the town it comes down to scoping out cars and apartments. You want to find the area of town where there are apartments or college housing with plenty of old cars and rust buckets, these are your people who will be easier to connect with, sometimes you will see someone in the parking lot who looks promising, stop and ask them for directions to McDonalds, if they are good hit them up to see if they know where the nugs are.

    6. Now use your GPS app and find the fast food places near these apartments. Go through the fast food joints to see if there are a bunch of twenty year olds eating there instead of young families. When you get your food ask the worker if there is a place close by you can get some smoke, if they toke they will know what you are asking. Have your cell number and alias on a piece of paper you can give them if their connection is going to text you. Look around for patrons who might be worth sitting next to. Have a pretend cell phone conversation about talking to a friend and telling them how high you got the night before. See if they are listening; if they are interested in the conversation ask them if they are good. It may take three or four tries but you will find someone who knows someone.

    7. Know the way cops operate, if they are going to bust someone in a larger town they build a case against them by first making two small buys and then a significantly larger buy. Dealers aren’t going to sell an ounce or more to a new contact but they will comfortably sell up to ¼ ounce to a new face. Get the text number for your new connection and don’t get greedy, just keep making small or medium small buys until there is some trust established.

    8. If you are there at night you can hit up the college bar or local watering hole. Buy a couple drinks and keep your ears open. If the bartender is cool see if he knows someone. Ask around and see what people do in this town for fun. Maybe there is a beach or park where people like to party. You can also go to Hot Topics at the mall and look at their weed shirts and strike up conversations, but this has never worked for me. Coffee shops are a chill place to meet folks and make conversation with stoner looking folks.

    9. Also hit up the head shops in larger towns. Most clerks are not going to be helpful, but they won’t give a rip if you politely ask other patrons if it is 420 yet. Again look for who is buying papers, blunts, or a new pipe.

    10. Dress the part, don’t do the generic tyedyed hippie look, get a concert shirt, either hip hop or heavy metal. Know who played recently in that town so you can ask people about the concert. Concert goers smoke.

    11. It can be nerve racking driving home with herb especially if you have to cross a state border. Go to Starbucks get a coffee and a pound of freshly ground coffee to go. Put your stash in the bottom of the coffee bag. It hides the scent and no state trooper is going to go digging through someone’s coffee grounds.

    12. Know what you want and how to eyeball the amount you are buying, you don’t want to be traveling with a scale if you don’t have to. Be prepared to spend $5 or $10 dollars over what you wanted to, keep haggling over prices to a minimum. Above all be cool, nervous folks make other folks nervous.
