Okay everybody, so my first grow was a small speaker which barely got 6 grams of diesel ryder. Now that I've made my mistakes it's time for a full on grow! So since I live in an apartment I want to be stealth and I decided, what better way than a 5 drawer dresser!? Cost- $20.00 @ Goodwill So once I had it I hollowed it out, and spray painted the inside chrome ($5.00) I had to put something behind the drawer faces so that light wouldn't leak and I also needed something for the back door as the original plywood was warped. 1/8 inch white particle board (for high reflectivity) fit the bill perfectly ($8.00). Now, how to hang the door.. Hinges are tricky as they reduce stealth and with only 1/8 inch particle board it's hard to have screws hold worth a damn. Solution? Magnetic cabinet closures ($2.00 ea x 4) and Velcro (15 ft.- $7.00). Note: on white particle board the best attachment method is adhesive, hence the metal which attracts the magnets has to be glued. (Loctite glue- $3.80) The bare bones cab Now for the innards. My biggest fuck up on this was my ventilation. First I went with a $15.00 50cfm 4 sone bathroom fan but it was way too loud for the bedroom so I had to figure something else out. At this point my budget was starting to get a little tight so as much as I would've like to have done a TD-100 $80.00 was a little too rich for my blood. Instead I've decided to go with the Bongsauce ventilation method of a box with computer fans blowing in and a carbon filter that the air pushes through. I made the box using drawer bottoms from the dresser and bough two Gentle Typhoon 1850RPM fans. These fans are known for being one of the quietest fans (28dba) you can buy with a high static pressure (2.9mmH2O) and cfm rating (58.3 CFM) $20.00 ea x 2. I'm still waiting for my fans from ups but I'll update soon with photos. Next was a carbon filter I didn't really want to shell out $40.00 for the cheapest carbon filter on amazon plus I didn't need anything big for a box this small and with so little ventilation. I decided to make my own, I used a green PVC grate from lowes ($4.00) and some net pantyhose on clearance at Walmart ($3.00). Carbon was $6.00 in the aquarium section at Walmart. Lastly on ventilation was a small one speed desk fan from Walmart for $6.00 I had to figure out a way to elevate the 3.8 gallon pot ($4.00) I filled with FFOF. I looked at doing a wire shelf but I decided I wanted something more easily adjustable. It hit me that I could use a chain pot hangar (free with pot at Lowes). I attached 3 cup hooks ($2.80) in the dresser ceiling and pulled the 3 chains off the S hook they connected to. Once I hung them from the cup hooks it elevated the pot perfectly and allowed it to still be highly adjustable. Finally I bought a power strip with a built in timer at Walmart on clearance for $9.00 and I already had 8 6500k 23W CFL's and the plugs and splitters left over from my first grow. That's pretty much everything I've done on the box so far! I didn't have the money to buy new seeds so I used a freebie I got last time from attitude that was Dinafem Original Amnesia. I could probably fit two plants and I'd rather not be growing a 90% sativa in such a small space but it's a first run so I won't be to upset if I don't get amazing yields. I used the paper towel method to germinate and I'll be using fox farms trio for ferts. All I have left is I to drill passive ventilation holes in the bottom and put together my ventilation box. My only question is should I LST or SCROG? Hope you guys enjoy!
Sick. Iv been thinking of doing one of same things to my extra dresser. I think im going to start prepping now that I'v red your post. Thanks alot ultrahigh01 SmokeE Bear
No problem man! Hope everything goes well, feel free to ask any questions about the build. I made about every mistake I could have on the way haha. Grow on brother!
Thanks for the advice guys. She's growing fast. I'm out of town so no photo update until Monday but the ventilation box didnt work. My two pc fan couldn't push through the carbon. For now I just took off the filter and temps are staying pretty low. Normally in the high 70s mid 80s. Not sure what I'm going to do yet as far as ventilation. I'm kind of at a loss.
She's growin! I don't recognize and problems with color or anything. What about you guys? When should I begin my FF trio? I was thinking veg week 4? I figure I'll switch to flower somewhere around 7-8 inches since I'm working with about 22 inches vertical space. Still haven't figured out what I'm gonna do about a carbon filter
This looks like I brilliant idea, I need to make one of these for a stealth grow, cheers for the idea lad and good luck with your grow! Sent from my HTC Desire C
I would hang the lights from the ceiling of the dresser, it would further utilize the CLFs. From the side, you are basically only using the 4 lights. I dig the setup though
Yeah, originally that's what I was gonna do but unfortunately the top is only about an eight of an inch thick
Well she's gettin big really quick. When should I start nutes? She has one little yellowish spot on one leaf (maybe from water getting on the leaf) but otherwise I think she looks pretty healthy.
Looking very nice, honestly I would not even LST if I was you. Just SCROG it. The screen will provide you with as much room as you need to counter the heigh by weaving the plant into the net. The idea of a SCROG is to get as many of the side nodes up to the top for lighting, so if you are LST'ing all of your side nodes will be smooshed together lol. Plus in that dresser it looks like you have plenty of room for a nice wide net so use it to the max capacity. Just my opinion tho. Keep us posted!
Definitely a cool idea, what do you put over the front to cover where the shelves were? Sub'd for results! Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Well I already started LST but she's looking pretty damn nice if I do say so myself. I'm thinking I'm going to start my FF trio next watering at 1/4 strength. Also I nailed white particle board up on the inside behind the drawer faces to block light and then caulked the cracks to prevent light leaks. Then I just used little tiny finishing nails to nail the drawer faces on. Picture update! Not sure why my pictures are rotating funny :/ sorry
