Hey Now, 5/25 will be the beginning of the 7th flowering week. I'm hydroing 4 plants in a 13 gallon tank. I want to start flushing for 2 weeks on 6/7. I'm using Gen.Hydro chems. Should I use molasses & water for the final 2 weeks of flush? Why should I use molasses? In other threads I've read it seems to be 1 tbs per gallon, is that right?
I can't help through experience but I can lend some logic. Their seems to be no need for using molasses. In nature the soil is molasses free. But I would think this may be one technique in flavoring the herb. When your flushing your harvest for it's final phase the plant starts to suck up ever thing it can in the water. Since it's essentially dying and starving for nutes it would suck up the molasses that would then be stored in the buds and stems etc. So this could flavor your plant or at least give it a molasses smell but since I've never done this so don't take my word. Hell I don't even know why I'm throughing it out there, I guess I just like to here myself type!
Dont use molasses for hydro, if you have been the entire grow, lucky you. Molasses greatly increase the chances of mold, and is also just bad for the hydro system. Id say just flush with water close but not quite. molasses is mainly for outdoor grows, and feeds the microorganisms in the soil, which then feed the roots. molasses also directly provides nutrients for the plant, its like a super carb. People suggest to use it during the end of flowering because the sugars will greatly increase bud growth. However the buds will not neccessarily have a molasses smell/taste. The idea of a flush is to levae no nutrients in the soil so that the plant feeds off its on store of nutrients, giving it less of a bitter flavor and resulting in a much more savory end product.
Correct, you need unsulphured molasses. Hydro+molasses = Big no no Organic+molasses = Big sticky buds People have successfully used molasses in hydro(With weekly res changes and daily maintenance) but it could possibly ruin your plants and is not recommended because of this(mold, scum buildup, etc). As NYC Diesel put it so well, I shouldn't have to explain it much further. Once you add a little molasses to your soil crops you'll see what the big deal is.
ya i also also herd that you used it durring the mid of flowering not as a flusher but idk ive never actually used it so im no expert
You can use it any time you want to. Everyone introduces it into their regimen differently. Some will even advise you to use it 2 weeks into flowering.
I always use blackstrap molasses. I use it in my water sequence all through flowering...water then next watering with molasses then next with nutes..repeat. On my last grow i switch from nutes to straight molasses and water from week 6 on. Worked great, no molasses flavor in the bud at all.
That is not even close! molasses is used as a carbohydrate for microorganisms in the soil, the microbes feed off it and it excels the natural breakdown of nutes so the roots can easily absorb them. molasses also has many micro nutrients and trace minerals which are vital in the last few weeks of flowering. OP: I do not suggest using molasses in a hydro application. they make several products which are basically molasses and are safe for hydro systems. It is more for people who grow in soil.
