filter medium question

    so i built the carbon filter using plans from this forum and im ready to put in the carbon, but my question is what is the difference between carbon and activated carbon.....will the activated carbon, which costs about twice as much, work twice as well?....thanks

    activated carbon is the product you want to use. Some carbons are impregnated to remove certain gaseous contaminants. The product you should look for is a standard coconut shell carbon with a 4x8 mesh. Mesh refers to pellet size. 4x8 mesh is roughly the size of a small capsule. One cup of carbon contains six miles of surface area (remarkable stuff). With regards to price you shouldn't pay more than $2.50 per pound.
