Absolute beginner here, I have a few questions about growing for the first time. I will be growing in a closet, about 4ft x 4ft. I'll only be growing 1 plant, AK-47. I understand for Veg state I need lights around 100watts and 6500k which I have found here http://www.amazon.com/Energy-Miser-FE-IISB-23W-65K-Fluorescent-Spectrum/dp/B003YNYMGS Which are equalivant to 100watts, I was wondering during veg state could I use 4 of these lights(~24hours/day) and have it work? If so, I understand you're supposed to change lights once the veg state is over and flowering comes would it work if I used 2 of those lights I previously posted along side 2 of these 2,500k lights such as http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Reveal-100W-Equivalent-Reveal-2500K-Spiral-CFL-Light-Bulb-2-Pack-FLE26HT3-2RVLBX2/204350015 for 12hours on / 12 hours off? or should I just use 2 or even 4 of the 2,500k lights? One last thing, if I routinely took care of the platns, would the yeild be decent? I want my set up like this Reflector/Clamp: http://www.amazon.com/Woods-0162-2-Gauge-Reflector-150-Watt/dp/B001KDVY42/ref=pd_sim_hi_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=1RVCP23ACD2J96PK26N8 Adapter: http://www.lowes.com/pd_17576-43469-6502_4294722560__?productId=3774299&Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&facetInfo= 4-Socket Adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Flashpoint-Socket-Adapter-Converts-Flourescent/dp/B004L8XC34/ref=pd_sim_hi_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0REAQSERKHS0VNQEN1EH and the bulbs I previously posted. EDIT: From what I understand, I germinate the seed in a paper towel, let it root out a little and put it in unfertilized soil... Can anyone tell me where I can find Unfertilized soil? I can't find it for the life of me! Is this unfertilized soil? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Premier-3-cu-ft-Peat-Moss-70976040/100626048 Can I use this for the first rooting stage of my cannabis? Then, remove from that soil and put it in Fox Farm Ocean Soil and let it root out in a 1gal container (since I want it around 2ft high), water it about 3x a week no more than 5x and keep it in here until flowering but I'm confused what I do when it's flowering.. do I keep it in the soil and add nutes to the soil? ANY TIPS are extremely helpful. Found that soil here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001I49Q98/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1535523722&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000AXPUDE&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1JGFYDPYANVV7A9GFTMW
My tip is go read some of the contents of this site. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Yes you can use multiple bulbs. I suggest fixing all 4 of them to initially be above the plant and then once it gets big enough put it around the plant. Make sure the entire plant is getting light. 6400k or around there for vegetative and 2700k for flowering. For cfls always keep the lights close to prevent stretching. The lights aren't nearly as hot as HIDS. Find any sort of organic soil. A lot of people go with Fox Farm Ocean Forest and a Happy Frog Mix. I went to three different stores, Home Depot, Lowes, and WalMart and none of them carried anything except MiracleGro Organic so i went with that. As long ad its organic it should be fine to use. The key is to remove any guessing of nutes and be able to have a clean slate so to say so you can add the nutes yourself. For the lights I suggest using all four 6400k throughout vegetation and then switching two for the 2700 K would be fine for flowering. Just know that the 6400k lights are not nearly as efficient as the 2700k for flowering and vice versa. For germination peat moss would not be ideal because peat moss retains a lot of moisture which is not good for the seed as it is trying to germinate seeds and needs to stay slightly moist but not soggy otherwise you could risk rotting and etc. use the paper towel method and once tap roots come out a decent length like 2-4 cm throw it 1/3" into something like rock wool or just straight into soil. Keep seeds slightly moist as it sprouts but do not overwater. Stick your index finger 2 knuckles deep and if you feel moisture, then its still good (obviously don't put your finger in delicate regions like where the seed is sitting). As for yields, if you keep levels right and don't mess up and stress the plant too much, you can definitely get good yields. Avoid beginner mistakes like overwatering, overfeeding, and overthinking. Keep soil damp but the roots also need to aerate and get oxygen and also not rot to shit. Always start feeding with 1/4 strength once a few nodes have developed and slowly go to full strength over a time period. And when all else fails, let the plant do its thing and it will tell you if something is wrong. There are plenty of guides on the site that show common problems and diagnoses. Patience is key
Thank you! One last thing, I've been reading all over the forums and it says I'll need to add nutes to the plants but I am confused how to do so because of a few factors... If I only have to water them every so often (usually once every 3 days) and the needed nutes vary from each week, it says I should add the nutes into a gallon of distilled water but I feel a gallon of water is excessive for watering.. would I just use a bit of that water? That seems really wasteful also.
Hey bro, glad to meet ya! Im currently on my first indoor grow and using cfl as well. One thing I know for certain is you need 100w ACTUAL, not the 100 equivalent. Im using four 23w cfl's. 6500 for veg and 3500 for flower. Hope that helps a little! buds, bitches and bandos
