Fertilizing Autos

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by hothrebel, Jan 22, 2022.

  1. I am growing in Ocean Forest and today is the start of week 3. I am going to use Dr.Earth 4-6-3 and 3-9-4.
I want to start feeding them today. My question is do I feed every watering or every other watering?
    Thanks.

  2. Ocean Forest is a hot soil and does not need nutes until the end of week 3 or 4. Autos can burn fairly easily. Start with 1/4 of the published amount and work up from there.

  3. As mentioned, I wouldn't think of using nutes in that soil for a full month. Ocean Forest, Happy Frog, and 420 are the soils that I use and they all have plenty of starter nutrients. At that point, I feed once a week and that works for me.
    Good luck!

  4. Trust me when I say they aren't ready yet. I exclusively grow autos and usually in ocean forest. My current grow is at about week 5 and I just fed for the first time but could have waited.

  5. I ran my 1st auto flowers this fall, started feeding at the end of the 1st week of flower, fed them once a week for 6 weeks,at half strength, then water only until harvest at 8 weeks,2 plants gave me over 4 ozs, keep watching the p.h., that's the only issue I had

  6. Also be sure to get some run off when you water between feedings

  7. Were you using Dr.Earth?

  8. You can start in week 3 or 4. If you are worried about burning, begin veg nutes at 1/4 strength until you see how they react. For autos I normally do 1 to 2 weeks of low dosage of veg nutes then mix veg and flower for a couple of weeks before shifting to flower nutes only a few weeks before cutting feed all together.

Nutrient need and timing varies between strains, and grow setups so learn to watch the plants. Also in my opinion, a “little” nutrient burn isn’t the end of the world and I would rather have that than deficiency.

  9. Thanks. Only use them one time a week then water only the rest of the week right?

  10. Everyone has their own style. I prefer to either feed every other watering, or go with a feed - water - dry three day cycle depending on how much water the plants are sucking up and how large they are compared to the container they are planted in at the time. Just do things gradually your first few grows. Up nutes slowly, etc. Pay attention to the plants and begin developing a feel for what they need that will help in future grows. There is no one "perfect" method for all scenarios.

  11. Great. Thanks!
