Feminized Seeds

  1. if working in a small closet grow would feminized seeds be worth ridding yourself of having to deal with males. on https://www.seedboutique.com/store/ 4 or 5 packs are pretty cheap so im wondering if its worth it.

    opinions would be appreciated

    thanks

  2. I believe feminised seeds are not 100% guaranteed. They are just FAR more likely, but at a higher price. How many plants are you planning? If all conditions are optimum, you shouldn't have much problem getting females with regular seeds.

It's been said many times that stress on the plant greatly increases the chance of a male. If you're only trying to grow 1 or 2 plants, then well yeah that would suck for both to be male. However, if you're growing 5ish plants, you're chances of a female are much better.

Once you have a female, just take clones and plant 'em, problem solved.

  3. fem seeds arent worth it imo, like the guy above said, they can hermie a lot easier. you will be fine with regular seeds and just removing the males

  4. Quality of fem seeds really depends on the breeder. I've had no problems w/ nirvana's fem seeds in the past, no hermies.

If you have the space to grow at least 4 plants, i'd just go w/ reg seeds, and buy 2 diff packs ;)

  5. at the most im looking at 4 plants
i already planned on taking clones but i am scared of wasted time on males.
if i go with seedbotique or dr. chronic and get standard seeds u guys think i could get me some pretty ladies i may just put my trust in you but im still pretty nervious. some more imput would be comforting.

by the way i have "Marijuana Horticulture The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower's Bible"
so ive read on the proper ways to treat plants in order to increase chances of females, also it says what not to do unless u want males so thats good to know i guess.

  6. go back and re read those last statements, the book should have not said that. there is no way to increase females, or what not to do to get males. genetics are pre determined, the only sex you could possibly have control over are hermaphrodites

you will be fine, just get a pack they come in 10's grow them all until you sex them take the males out, statistically you will have around 5 females, kill of any of those you need.

    fem seeds arent all great

  7. not saying u dont know what ur talking about but the book says that differences in humidity and temp and stress will help determin the sex. it does make sense that the seed already contains all the genetic material that a plant will have including the sex. the book also says that the seed contains the genetic material for for a large number of things but it doesnt list sex. i know u cant believe everything u read but i figure if i do what the book says to increase females it cant hurt. also a published book seems like a more relaible source than an online forum. but shit i dunno who to believe.

  8. i just thought about this and (even though i cant find it in book cuz i was baked when i was reading it) maybe the things the book said to do to increase females meant that the way a pollinated female was treated and grown will determine how many female seeds it will produce... fuck i wish i could find that damn page in the book.

  9. just get regular seeds, they are cheaper.

  10. for under $100 dollars from greenhouse seeds i can get 2 strains (5 packs) of feminised seeds. greenhouse is a repetable seed company and they have a very nice selection of feminised strains. im thinking lemon skunk from greenhouse (http://www.greenhouseseeds.nl/shop/index.php?target=products&product_id=33) and dutch passion's Brainstorm (http://www.drchronic.com/products.asp?recnumber=1260) for a total of $93.98 including shipping from the doc. unless u guys can convince me otherwise im goin this route.

by the way im gonna grow 3-4 plants, a couple of lemon skunk and a couple of the brainstorm. then after 2 monthes i will clone each plant and then flower them then harvest then pull clones down from my clone cabinet into the veg/flower closet and do the same thing to those after they reach 2 months. so after i plant the first seeds i wont have to by anymore untill i decide switch strains becuase i will be continuously cloning.

i dont see anything wrong with this plan but please tell me if im an idiot, cuz its my first "real" grow and i wanna do it right

  11. ok, you asked for it...you are an idiot....just kidding, but can I offer a better idea? Buy cheaper regular seeds. Hashberry from mandala is like 20 bucks for 10 seeds. Fem seeds suck, they often hermie....people have been trying to tell you this. Don't spend the money on them. You could get 4-5 strains of cheaper seeds for the money you want to spend. Mandala seeds are proven excellent, and very affordable. Don't spend all that bread for expensive seeds. I'd spend 40 bucks and get two mandala strains. That way you are out less money if the seeds don't make it, or you kill them.
Trust me...but as I say to everyone else, do what you want...that's what you are gonna do anyways...

  12. he sounds like he already made his mind up, hes jus waiting for someone to agree with him.

  13. ^^QFT

  14. the smartest thing you said was "i know you cant believe everything you read"

sex is pre determined like i said the only thing you have control over is hermaphroditiing a plant.

i suggest you get a new book, what is this book called?

  15. the book is marijuana Horticulture: The Idoor/Outdoor Medical Grower's Bible, by Jorge Cervantes

the book says that "enviromental factors start influencing sex the moment the seedling has three pairs of true leaves. the enviromental factors that influence sex determination of cannabis include but are not limited to: higher nitrogen & lower potassium levels for the first 2 weeks, lower temps, high humidity and more moister in the growing medium, also fewer hours of daylight (e.g. 14 hours) and no enviromental stress"

apparently Henk, owner of Dutch Passion Seeds was kind enough to allow Jorge to adapt the previous information from his archives

also i wasnt waiting for someone to agree with me i was just trying to provoke some more answers to form a better conclusion

i will not buy feminized seeds

    you guys convinced me

  16. Question... Ive had quite a few people tell me feminized seeds are the way to go if you are using the SOG method. Is this not the case?

  17. No it is not the case - because within packs of seeds (feminized or not) you're going to get different phenotypes. For a SoG or any other multi-plant grow techniques to be effective you're going to want your plants to be as uniform as possible. The best way to go is clones in a multi-plant set up geared toward maximizing yield.
