gender equality seems pretty political to me, in fact the issues you listed as being more important for women to consider than superficial issues are all VERY political examples.
insecurity is a cultural problem we all face as a species. this thread is filled with it, i'm over it, we've all faced it. now it's time to move on everyone, who has the spare time to constantly care what others think? insecurity is a social disease.

people's own insecurities cause them to be more critical of other people who may not be skinny or beautiful or up to society's standards. its kind of a vicious cycle, everyone should be easier on themselves and others. everyone possesses some type of beauty.
