I am not a fan of generalizations but while watching the Sara Silverman Show I think it may be true. I've found a few woman stand-up comics funny but I have yet to see a show with a woman as the main protagonist that I found funny. Nor do I know any girl that I would consider half as funny as my guy friends. Why is this? Because I'm not a woman and therefore I have different life experiences that lead me to not find their humor funny? Or are women just wired differently then men from society or genes? I think it's a little bit of both but does anyone feel the same way / have any better reasons?
man, I'm not good at remembering the names of celebrities I like, always been kind of a weakness of mine. but anyways, I've seen some pretty damn funny broads on comedy channel and stuff like that. peace
I agree that we our perception on things is are just a tad different but there are still some damn hot and funny comedians... And come on now, it helps to have a smokin hot girl making you crack up
I doubt gender has anything to do with this; I've met just about as many women as men that had a fantastic talent for leaving me in hysterics as well as awe at such rapier wit. Sarah Silverman is just not funny.
Yeah that brunette with the pink dress and the blonde with the high voice are some of my favorite stand-ups. It just seems that sitcoms or any comedy show that isn't stand-up can't be led by a female QFT Different strokes I spose. I'd say that the majority of my friends are females but none of them crack me up, a few laughs now and again sure but not anyone I would call outstandingly funny.
sara silverman makes me angry.....she' so immature. I know its intentional (or i hope) but i think her comedy is just stupid.
i think that women in general feel like their not taken as seriously in general. to have success in a tv show u have to not take yourself seriously - ur always ur own best material. u can get by on making fun of other ppl for standup. i think most women have a hard time not taking themselves seriously in that way - in this case it's kind of a double-edged sword. u have to not take urself seriously to be funny - but have to be taken seriously to get a show - and obviously the bias is toward women not being able to carry their own show. i also think that women are much less willing to offend ppl being in the possition of being a sort of minority themselves. that being said - i thought roseanne was pretty funny - she didn't carry the show by herself - but she was definately the main comic of it. haven't seen sara silverman's show yet.
Eh, I haven't heard enough of her shtick to make a decision but her roasts normally stink/ I dunno what it was about her show but I couldn't get through the first 10 min. I think another problem is that the main type of sitcom out there is the stupid fat man and the smart hot wife type. The dumb wife sitcoms died do to PCness and I doubt they will be resurrected anytime soon. King of Queens and the like are too popular. The only show that comes to mind in the modern times that has the smart male lead and the ditsy female leads would be Arrested Development and that died (wrongfully) in 3 seasons. Roseanne was quite humorous. I suppose there are always exceptions to the rule.
Are you guys serious? i think sara silverman's show is absolutely hysterical! but i just love dumb slapstick comedy and i think she does a good job at it. just my opinion though. Other than her, i cant really think of any female comedians that i really find funny.
I'm a fan of slapstick myself but her show didn't catch my interest. I'll try and watch it again, maybe I wasn't in the right mindset.
i know what you mean, ive only met 1 or 2 girls in my life who can make me laugh my ass off.. where as i know plenty of guys who can tell a good joke i swear some girls dont have a sense of humour too
I know what you mean. I'm not sexist in the least bit, but a lot of women don't seem funny to me at all. But when you find one that is, it's great! Although, I did see this one lady stand-up comic on Comedy Central that made me LAUGH my ass off. Seriously. I'll figure out her name and come back and tell you. You will appreciate it.
I also find my male friends alot funnier 90% of the time, but i do have a couple of female friends who just crack the group up laughing.
Me and my friends always talk about this....all the girls we talk to completely miss sarcasm 90% of the time. Any guy would pick up on it immediately. Women also tend to be very gullible, you tell them something happens that completely isn't true, and their eyes light up and they say 'really???' Most guys however never fall for it...it's strange.... For example, all my guy friends think this is the funniest dumb joke ever, they crack up every time....I ran an experiment on girls to see if they get it....out of 20 girls, only 2 got it immediatley...the others were left puzzled as hell or pretending like they got it. When I ask them why it was a joke they couldn't tell me. It's the world famous muffin joke! So these 2 muffins are getting baked in an oven. One muffin says, "God damn it's hot in here." The other muffin says, "Holy shit a talking muffin!" *Note the double meaning in the first sentence as well, my stoner friends....
I think most girls have a sense of humor, although the ones who don't are not fun to be around whatsoever, mainly because I like joking around 97.84% of the time. I just htink they have a different sense of humor, I almost want to say less mature but it would be taken the wrong way. I mean it to mean that girls LOVE puns and puns aren't exactly the highest form of comedy. Yeah hence why if I ever return their phone calls, I'll call Cameron Diaz and/ or that woman for The Whole Nine Yards as well as Saving Silverman. Exception to the rule, and the fact that she's the only woman "anchor" (I dunno what the Daily Show side-kicks are called) on the show for at least the past 3 or 4 years.
Hahaha, it's funny because the muffins don't have a central nervous system to determine a temperature increase. How do the girls miss that ?
i have to say sarah silverman is funny as shit, she is so damn funny. and lisa lampanelli is funny too. i dont know, i find anyone can be a comedian if there good. sarah displays funny ass antics. her childish behavior, and let alone, her rudeness is just fucking funny.
