Fem seeds prone to hermie all the time!?!?!

Discussion in 'Advanced Growing Techniques' started by Deleted member 997890, Sep 2, 2019.

  1. Desperately in need of a new strain. Been looking at granddaddy purple, and really want delicious critical jack herer (again).

However.. Have had trouble in the past with various strains from fem seeds turning hermie for no damn reason!! :bang:

It seems to be that from x8 grows and hundreds wasted on shit genetic seeds that there is an obvious problem with certain breeders fem seeds turning hermie.

Any cuttings from friends, bought cuttings, have no problems, in the beginning I had plants that were in over 40 degrees celcius for a few days after a fan stopped working and it didn't cause any kind of herm.

Grandaddy purple is available in regular seeds, I'm under the impression that if I get these, throw away the males, I will be left with 'normal' female plants that haven't been feminised with chemicals etc and I won't risk having huge seeds in otherwise perfect buds.

Opinions please, in depth, scientific, knowledgeable ones :love-m3j:

  2. Well this has been debated ….
Normally I look at the seeds try to pick out a female seed and then germinate the one seed and make clones of that one plant after I make sure its a female which normally take 5 weeks .

  3. Not being a smart ass. (Figured I'd say that first so no misreading)

How do you pick out a female seed? The most mature looking, spotted?
Heard wives tales but no definitive answer b4.

  4. I've grown many crops from fem seeds. I've only had one plant hermie and I had a catastrophic light failure that year that caused problems leading me to let them grow way past their usual harvest point which is a known cause of herms. I won't say I'll never grow regular seeds again but I'm a fan of fems.

  5. That's the thing, they're so easy to grow, always definitely females throughout their life, then a few always have the bananas and seeds throughout. Some strains more susceptible than others. Can you recommend some stains and the breeders that this has never happened with in your experience, if you'd be so kind!

  6. Just had this problem...

The Hermie is a right off, and it got at least 2 more seeded pretty bad.

One seems only slightly seeded and I am left with one good unseeded plant outta 5.

Shitty unheard of breeder with fem autos... Have to assume bad genetics combined with a motion sensitive light came together to screw up my crop.

So next grow is happening here... And with a well know companies seeds...

  7. I read somewhere on these forums that a user just pulled off the pollen producing organs and let his hermies grow and flower.

    With really good results.

Hermies are to be expected with fem seeds, but a huge batch like that? Something has to be up stress, lights, genetics idk something’s going on here.

Personally, I wouldn’t buy from that seed bank again if I could find no issues on my end. Plenty of places to find Jack Herer x critical nowadays though. Good luck.

  8. Personally I do not have issues with fem seeds turning hermie. To be honest this sounds like a grow that's contaminated with pollen if it keeps causing this issue. Either that or something else stressful is causing the issue

  11. Been working for me ..

  12. I have tried this method with about 70 to 80 success ..
Its seems there is always someone saying this or that isn't true .
Only way anymore is just try it and see what results you get ..
Nothing better then hands on experience ..

Mostly going for just the seeds that where the plant attaches to the seed that it looked like a micro volcano looking pit using a 30x to 60x loupe
I used that method to get me started ,,, sense then I have been cloning my plants .
I was happy with the results I got ..I figured that's pretty good for my first try ..
    But
One of my best friends who has been growing for 3 decades and is a consultant to a few of the Commercial MJ grow factories in the northern part of my state said he didn't have any luck with trying this method .
Right now he is in charge of the cloning and seedling's part of a commercial MJ factory ..

Personally I will be looking at the seeds I germinate ,, and until I start hitting numbers that prove this theory wrong I will keep on doing it ..
I have stayed with this one strain for two years
And haven't germinated a seed for two years .

Maybe I was lucky ,,, maybe not ...

70-80% doesnt make it a fact, it actually proves it isn't. By the time you add in females that were thrown away as males that number is even lower.

    Total myth.

  14. So if that's the case, all femmed seeds should look like they have inverted nipples. Ha ha, got it!

I've heard similar stuff since i was young, and read some old high times that had contradicting reports (from the 90s).
Cool that it's worked for you, but I don't have space/time to waste on males... (is this how lesbians feel?)

Good ol @killset lol, always here to let you know just how wrong you are! Lmao
How many years in service kill? You remind me of my old drill sergeant buddy

  16. Nah, I wasnt being a smart ass either.

I look forward to to your posts man. I always know if there's an ounce of bullshit in a thread, and you see it...

Was being serious about the service part too. I have a close friend/ex army drill sergeant who you remind me of. Only difference is I've never heard you say "Nancy". Ha ha
(Kind of thought killset was a reference to it too)
