I made my own organic soil mix I mixed it in 4 tiers Tier 1 1 part Alaskan humus (AH) 2 part Earth worm casting (ewc) Tier 2 1 part ah/ewc 1 part perlite (added a little vermiculite too) 1 part peat moss Tier 3 For every gallon of the tier 2 mix I added 1/4 cup dolomite 2 tbsp oyster shell flour (down to earth) 2tbsp azomite Tier 4 For every gallon of the tier 3 mix I added 1/4 cup “Bio live” (down to earth) 5-4-2 1/4 cup “uprising grow” (roots organic) 6-1-2 I threw in a handful of lava rock to give more homes for microbes too. I checked pH and ppm then pH: 6.4-6.5 Ppm: 840 It’s gonna cook for just about three weeks before planting Currently I’m charging a few cups of Biochar in a compost tea (with equal parts ewc/AH/Biochar and some biolive in addition azos and fungi) to add in to the mix here in a couple days I need some criticism. What am I missing? What is wrong? Do ppm and pH matter a lot in living soil. I’ve gotten mixed reviews on this matter. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
That's almost 2 cups of dolo plus a cup of OSF, or 3 cups lime total per cubic foot. That's way too much and might cause you issues down the road. Normally you want about a cup of lime per cubic foot (7 gallons).
What is the suggested actions I take then. I haven’t planted anything yet Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Not sure what to tell you. You could, of course, mix another batch of soil base and dilute it with what you have. I'd wait for more opinions on this before doing anything.
Luckily for me, I have some nice resources here in Colorado. I went down to the “GrowWarehouse” and picked up some more ingredients and added portions from tier’s 1,2,&4 (leaving out the dolomite and OSF). I mixed into the soil as thoroughly as I could. I did this based on the advice of a person who has experience growing in organic soil (not to mention he works at a fertilizer supply co). Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I think its well worth it. Getting your soil right is probably the most important part, and you wouldn't want to waste time and end up with issues down the road.
I just wanna day thanks dude. I wouldn’t have caught that until it was too late (ie the plants were already planted). Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
