Hows everyone's weekend going thus far?
I'm researching different strains that have as much as possible to offer the beginner organic grower. What are some of your opinions on beginner strains? I have a few in mind from banks like: Barney's, Greenhouse, or Dutch Passion. Just thought I'd throw out somewhat of a different topic this morning. Thanks for your time and efforts.

  2. Northern Lights #5 is always a classic. Easy to grow, low odor, good yields, and tasty buds. I would definitely go for a simple strain that has proven its hardiness and ease of growth over the years. You don't want a finicky, high-maintenance girl on your first run :p.

  3. Pete.

I'll probably get ridiculed for this, but if it were me, I'd grow out some bag seed for a first/beginner grow. There are some rare gems in bag seeds and when properly grown they will turn out great.

Take a look through http://forum.grasscity.com/bud-shots/291220-lets-see-those-bagseed-harvests.html and you'll see what I mean. Hang on to your hard earned money and as your grow skills develop, you'll have learned more about the different strains available.

  4. Ditto what Chunk said. If I had to recommend 2 strains for a beginner it would be the original Skunk#1, or Northern Lights 5, or a hybrid of the 2. I lost the strain years ago and wish I could get it back myself.

If you have on hand or can get ahold of some bagseed from some heady nugs, it's perfect for a 1st run. Even if you get some mid-grade sativa bagseed, you can find some jewels as well.

  5. I am changing my recommendation :p. Go with what chunk says, it's definitely a better idea to grow out some bagseed and get your growing techniques/ setup dialed in before you start purchasing known strains. And you will still have good herb, heck, you may find a hidden gem and won't even need to buy fancy seeds :hello:.

    Chunk is right!

Honestly I started growing trash. Like a true trash strain. It had no known genetics and came from some bush that a friend of mine left out and it seeded and i got a whole butt load of seeds from it.

I think I killed about 20 seeds my first attempt lmao.
It took me a while before i got anything to grow really. Took me even longer to figure out what the funk i was doing, and longer still to go organic. So honestly, I'd say you're light years a head of what i did.

Critical +, I'd say was a good strain for me. Good pain relief strain. grew well, great yield, very potent! I still have two joints that'll keep be pain free for a while lol

Thanks for your postings, and great advice! I started a few bag beans from a couple various satchels.

If you don't mind me asking Ss, which genetics company did you get your lemon kush from?

  12. It looks like that's the one. I wish they offered it in non fem. I could still get them locally although I won't stoop to the level of having to buy them from a person I gave a double handful of the seeds to freely a long time ago.

    Regular, non-fem.

  14. only downfall to grow bagseeds as a beginner is if you do find that million dollar gem then chances are it will be harvested without a trace :( But i agree bag seed is the way to go.

Again I would just like to reiterate how thankful I am for the responses.
I am going to do just as you all have unanimously voted, stick to the bag beans...for now.

As I "grow in experience" I plan on striving towards doing much research on terpenes, terpeniods, flavoniods, ect. in the pursuit of bringing out every bit of taste possible.

    My first strain selection: http://dnagenetics.com/seeds/lemon-skunk

Just out of curiosity are you a medical patient? Are you a recreational grower/smoker? Because I wouldnt recommend certain strains to certain people based on their medical need.

Its obvious that for pain a strong indica would do wonders. But if your a rec smoker there would be others i would choose.

I've grown some strains with pods so fat and look so fantastic, but had no medical benefit and gave the whole thing away. Does that make any sense?

I do not have an official doctors referral, (the verbal recommendation/suggestion is all I needed, however) nor Rx. I am a combat veteran who has been medically diagnosed with ptsd, anxiety, as well as some minor injuries (in comparison to most combat related injuries) blah blah blah.
I do enjoy a good indica body coma...
I do like the cerebral sativa high...
I'd love to have both in one with that lemon pinesol jet fuel funk flavor!
My problem is...I love them all!

Oh and I'm a beginner...I'm giving her all she's got though, for what i can in my current living environment anyhow:eek:

Any help you can give this main land bo out would be, as always most definitely be appreciated.

    Anybody?

    PTSD, anxiety?

I wouldnt recommend growing it. But SLH is a fantastic strain for that!
Oh my gawd, if you could grow love on a plant it would be called super lemon haze lol.
By far one of my favorite strains. But i made the mistake of trying to grow it before i had the experience of knowing wtf i was doing. If you can get a sample of it, Get it! But dont try growing it until you're more experienced. Just my opinion...

  19. Outdoors, hazes are beasts that never want to finish, and it really takes dedication, skill, and really big lights indoors to get a tropical/subtropical sativa to express it's potential. All I know about PTSD is from my ex bro in law- they have him on Wellbutrin currently, but the sativa I had put him in panic mode when he was back home on leave. We gave it a 2nd go with some of my SS Chronic and it was like night and day. He really acted like the dude I grew up with again.
