Hi Guys, not native english but hope you can understand so this is my growbox: I germinated seeds on wet paper, on Friday 20th Dec they opened so i planted on those 18L pots (i know, maybe too big but I didnt fill up to the top, every pot has around 12.5L of AllMix soil with a layer of coil pebbles to fill volume) On Sunday 22th Dec, 3 of them came out of the soil and 1 (the smallest one in the next photos) came out on Monday 23th Lamps are Niello LED, they consume measured at the wall 130W each (260W both) .. extraction fan on top of the grow box and i'm waiting for a 20cm fan to put inside to direct it to the plants... for now I use and external oscillating fan mostly directed to the entrance on the left just to keep air moving So I proceeded to watering since the beginning and already made mistakes on first week and ended up overwatering .. basically didn't wait for soil to dry and watered anyway every 2 days with almost 1L of water mixed with 1ml/L of BioBizz Root-Juice Seedlings were suffering a bit from lack of oxygen I think (also soil was too compacted so i moved it a bit with a couple of toothpick hoping there weren't roots in the way, but I did it carefully) Also the second time watering (that was the first time with root-juice added) the top of the soil started to grow a very thin layer of white mold and I scraped that away with a spoon) Anyway now I'm around Day 7/8 from seed coming out of the soil and I think I managed the overwatering problem.. i waited almost 4 days without watering and yesterday i gave them only 0.2L of water+1ml/L root-juice .. all looks good but 2 plants have me questioning a bit so, photos. this one looks very good, it's the biggest one: this one also good is the second biggest: then this one, came out 1 day later in respect of the others and despite super super small, seems it's going good: the last one is worrying me a bit. it's the first who sprouted out of the soil, but it's becoming the slowest and I do not understand why.. I guess it is getting slowly bigger but the second set of true leaves doesn't want to come out: as you can see , it seems like the new leaves are starting to grow but those little pistils-like that are supposed to become the new leaves are like that since days Should I just wait and do nothing? thanks
What else can you do? Its not like you can give it CPR or anything. One thing I am concerned is that the base of your stalk is darker... light brown. Try not to get that area wet, I wouldn't want your seedlings to dampen off.
Ok, then that is another error from me i did not avoid to water the base of the stalk now i wait all to dry off and next watering i won't water there and try to do it just in a circle around it
So I watered again (hope this time better? i gave 0.4L each pot, pH 6.5 and root-juice 1ml/L), Day 12 from sprout out of the soil This one is still slow and look deformed, very long but slim first pair of leaves What concerns me is, brown spots came out on both of them Difficult to make good photos, in reality it looks worse and more brown on the spots Leaves on all plants look dark green and a bit stiff and not so flat... I guess the soil (I wrote on first post I used AllMix but actually it is Atami Kilomix) is too hot on nuts for them? Is it a good idea to spray some BioBizz alg-a-mic foliar on it? Will the brown spots ever recover or they will stay like that forever ?
I've grown their Gorilla glue and Pineapple express. They have very good genetics. They are slow to start. Once they establish a good root mass they will take off fast. Maybe 7-10 days and you will be surprised at how fast they grow.
Thanks for the reliefy answer Next time I think I will go to photoperiodic seeds though, and keep this cycle on autoflower just to "practice" Any hints of what the brown spots could be? nutrients burn from the kilomix soil as I'm thinking?
I'm not familiar with your soil mix. Auto-flowering plants don't need much for the first few weeks. Water only. That leaf tip burn will not go away. But, it will not hurt much either. trojangrower gave you very good advice. Keep your water in a ring just outside of your widest leaf point. Doing this will make your roots grow towards the wet soil. Once the plants reach about 3 weeks water the whole pot as they should be gaining 1-2" of growth per day. You will also be well past the point of dampening off. Good luck.
I just sprayed under the leaves with - Alg-a-mic 1ml/L - Acti-vera 1ml/L - Bio-Heaven 0.5ml/L Hope it will help
Day 13 This one very pretty and no flaws almost (purple reflects are from the lights nearby) This other one also good but begins to show some brown spots This one is super small and compacted and a bit deformed, and brown spots Now the slowest one: what's happening to her? it seems like the main stem never developed, main stem looks just like a single hair with a black tip and 2 main stems are slowly replacing it Is it like a genetic mutation? or some heavy damaged suffered maybe from overwatering?
It is getting worse... the first set of 1finger's leaves is getting brown spots everywhere I watered some hours ago with 0.5L of bottled water pH 6.3-6.5 BioHeaven 0.5ml/L Root-juice 2ml/L Activera 2ml/L Alg-a-mic 2ml/L and also foliar-sprayed with the same water but withouth the Root-juice but doesn't get better
but those Biobizz don't have N-P-K just humic/fulvic acid , and minerals since i use oligominerals water I guess the Atami Kilomix is too hot? i already have high humidity there, but also using ultrasonic humidifier with RO water and i always have between 58% and 70% / 22-26°C
I agree with Trojangrower. You are going to kill your plants with kindness. We all learn in different way. I too have tortured a few with to much love.
i bought alg a mic, activera and Bio-Heaven because biobizz says those help a plant recovering from overwatering and nutrient burn, and they contains minerals (my water has low ppm) and basically no N P K i didn t thought i was killing them with that Anyway they were turning brown even before I added those, so I m still thinking about the soil being too hot, and the initial overwatering I did involontary worsed things New leaves are perfect, just the first set is turning brown
what about this... Looking at this table: I then went to find info in my soil, Atami Kilomix: it says it has a pH of 5.5 I didn't know that so I always ph-downed my water with citric acid to 6.3-6.5 An acidic soil, would give me Phosphorus, Calcium, Magnesium and Molybdenum lockout according to that table Now, since i'm watering so few in such big pots I never get any runout water and I don't know the exact pH but does it make sense? Should I water with pH 7.5 water to compensate?
I think it was indeed a pH problem and calcium deficiency.. Yesterday, even if I watered 2 days ago too, i gave them more water, 1L each but with slighty higher pH of 7.2 and root-juice 1ml/L and Alg-a-mic 2ml/L The brown discoloration seems stopped and they've grown a lot today Now lights are off but later I will post photos
