I absolutely loved this movie. Directed by Wes Anderson with great voice work and really cool, trippy animation. I thought it was gonna be a little kids movie cause thats kinda how they advertised it but it's really an adult animation film. There's "cussing" and adult themes etc. Overall the movie is hilarious. The comedy is on par with Rushmore, which i think is Anderson's funniest film, and is funny in the same way that all his movies are. All the different animals and the subtle way he shows there natural inclinations as animals is funny. Anyways anyone else seen it? If not, i highly recommend it to Wes Anderson and or animation fans.
I saw this in theaters on opening weekend, and i felt bad because it was such a great movie but knew it was going to be overlooked by general audiences. I agree with you that the animation an voice work was sensational, and i also liked Anderson's interpretation of the story. There were definitely a lot of more adult elements than i had thought there would be. I think the movie was marketed pretty poorly however, the only reason i knew about it was because i like to peruse apple trailers. I feel like it will gain a sort of cult following though once it gets released on dvd though.
Everything about it is really, really well done. The voicework is all very sound, the sets are beautifully designed, the plot and content was really engaging. Animation was solid, the whole vibe of the film was just really warm and memorable. It's really interesting on a few symbolic levels (the whole wolf and 'wild animals' thing, the class element with the wealthy English capitalists etc), it gives it a depth that makes it pretty far removed from being a kids movie. That's probably why it's so well made - it's funny and engaging to me as an adult but warm enough to be good for kids to watch.
i guess im gonna have to watch this sometime...i wanted to go see it then i thought it might be a kids movie so i didnt.
I thought the same thing, either that or it was going to be a furry fest. But yeah, it shocked the hell out of me, probably my favourite movie right now. I recommend you watch it
so i got baked and watched this movie last night...it was pretty good i thought it was funny they said "cuss" instead of sayin the "bad" word
Although funny and suspenseful, Wes Anderson's style may be a little too obscure to carry over to the family film genre, but that certainly won't stop those of us who grew up with the story from getting nostalgic.
I thought his style was perfect for the book. I hope he keeps making animated films cause it's like a perfect fit for him. Gives him a lot more freedom..
Methinks it'll develop more of a cult following when it gets a DVD release - even if it doesn't 'carry over to the family film genre' (in my opinion, it's not really a family film, kids just wouldn't get a lot of the humour or themes) it hopefully will none the less get a wider audience than those who went to see it in the movies. It's such a shame that it didn't do well in the movies and no one went to see it - I blame the shitty ads, which made it look like some goofy lame little movie about nothing particularly interesting. Still, here's to hoping it encounters the success it deserves when it gets a DVD release
I think the studios thought that it would do better if they marketed it as a fun movie for families when i think they should have marketed it as the next witty, deadpan Wes Anderson film. An animated feature specifically not for kids. I think it would have done a lot better..
