Fan to Charger power usage

  1. Im wanting to wire a 800mm and a 120mm fan up to a phone charger.

Would the following work properly and safely?

    Blackberry charger -

    input: 100/240v - 150mA 50-60Hz
    output: 5v - 700mA

    Fans: 12v DC - 0.24A
    : 12v - 0.09A

  2. Found another at

    230v 50Hz 145mA

    output 9v 2a

  3. come on someone must know....

  4. It's not going to work right because the out put is only 5v and not 12v like you need. I used a old laptop charger in my pc grow box works great.

  5. As countryboy13 said. You will need a charger with a 12v output that produces at least the stated amount of amperage (A). That is a really low amp rating for both so likely any charger that outputs 12v will work.

  6. It would be easier to find a 12v wall wart from something such as a router, modem, etc (little beefier than a phone charger. Laptop as previously mentioned). Just ask people you know for power supplies. This should be a freebie item. Phone chargers are mainly 3.3v and mostly 5v.

  7. Thanks for the replies,

I managed to pick up an ac to dc adaptor with a choice of volts so I put it to 12v and wired both up and running ok.

It also has quite a few more amps than needed so its not working overtime.

You can take an old PC power supply to make 3.3v, 5v, +12v, and -12v posts. Or any combination thereof. Can plug in multiple fans this way, just don't overdue it obviously.

=<$10 for materials. Think I got away with about $4. Radioshack.

Here's the tutorial I found a long time ago.
