Fan leaves essential for growth?

  1. Alright here is the issue -

A friend of mine is growing an indoor plant, he is using CFLs, and more fertilizer than i've ever seen. The plant is maybe 3 1/2 feet and does not look bad at all. Although....

Recently he cut off every fan leaf on the plant except for two at the top. His claim is that a plant only needs two fan leaves in order to collect sunlight. I partially agree with him, although I also think the plant would grow even better if he had just left the leaves.

all in all the main question is.....

Does a plant grow better with only two fan leaves?

I've never heard of the technique of leaving only two leaves to collect light, although my friend is convinced it will increase his yield. SOMEONE HELP ME OUT!

  2. Tell your friend hes a retard. The more leaves that are on the plant, the more light the plant can receive, the more the plant will grow. The only time you cut fan leaves off is to expose the undergrowth to more light.

  3. fan leaves are like huge solar panels for the plant to produce energy, its main source. even for budding. you're friend doesn't think very hard. now his plant just has way less energy to grow, and will be stunted probably for a week or two. no need to trim fans unless they're on the verge of death.
