Fan Leafs during flowering stage

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by ryuji4000, May 12, 2011.

  1. I am currently in my second week of flowering and things are looking nice (knock on skull). I would like your recommendations in regards to fan leaves. Should I cut them or shouldn't I? Will cutting the fan leaves impede flower growth? What are the pro's and con's of either? If you could help me out I'd appreciate it.

  2. I also have a 4' Blue Dream that is still vegging in a 3 gal. pot...how much will it grow if I flower it now? Just curious..

    Thanks

  3. They say use 3 to 1 ration. 4 inches should be around 12 during flowering. I started mine at about 8 inches there 14 now and only 10 days into flowering.

  4. Where did you get your GDP and purple kush? whats the strain called?

Ive heard different things, and if you didnt ask the question i probably would have....I hear one of two things:

    1) dont cut the fan leaves because thats how the plant takes in energy for growth and bud development

    2) cutting unnecessary growth will push the plant to focus its attention on the budsites and produce better buds

So Im really not sure, I hear both of these arguments all the time.

  5. Thank you for your response. I am experimenting and taking some upper fan leaves off and getting light to some budding sites on 2 plants. I've only taken 5-7 fan leaves off of both and will be watching these. At least from what I've been reading more light to budding sites = better buds

  6. As to your questions, I purchased clones from the local dispensary. strain....I had thought Grand-daddy Purple and Purple Kush were strains. How do you know what strain it is?

  7. From what I was told cutting fan leaves is not healthy. Trim the blades of the leaves around the budding site to allow more light instead.

  8. I usually leave them except the ones at the bottom 1/3 of the plant and the ones covering buds.

Different opinions on this though so I'm trying out different things to form my own opinion.

  9. Yeah I'm doing 2 plants right now with removing some fans up top to get more light to the flowers on the main stem just to see what this will do.

  10. Well at 4' tall it would stand at 12'.....that's quite a bit of growth this has turned into a warehouse/outdoor/greenhouse plant then? I don't think I can flower this sucker then. I should maybe take clones and just get the new clones to go into flowering after a few weeks of veg. What does the rest of the community think?
