Existance in this world

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by MoleyBear, Oct 29, 2012.

  1. I started smoking around a year ago and pretty much smoked often (every other day almost) until about a month ago.

Over time, i started to find myself questioning my existance in this world, the meaning of the world and over things of that sort. It almost feels like the world could be one big dream almost.

I've looked up derealization and don't think this is the case of me feeling the world is one big dream.

It could be anxiety related, about 3 years back i had anxiety quite bad and got this feeling of a dreamlike world, but it seems to be enhanced with smoking permanately for now.

Any other people experience things of this such? Should i just stop smoking?

    Cheers

  2. what is a dream?

A manifestation of a world around you by the brain

    what is life

A manifestation of the world around by the brain

the difference, is in the words "the" and "a"

your brain could be filtering out things that would make the world seem even more like a dream, we wouldnt know though... because we cant perceive them...

The brain is the driving force behind perception... we could very well perceive a very different form of the universe than what it actually is because of our brains... no one would ever know

  3. So your saying that the world is just one big perception in our brains?

    Thanks

  4. That's not what he's saying.

  5. thats all the world is... what we perceive it to be

our senses build the world around them based on how the brain feels it should be according to the very same sense...

My eyes see a blue wave length, i see blue. My ears hear a series of wave lengths, i hear a sound. Fire scorches the skin on my arms, do you think my arm is feeling it, or my brain telling me my arm is feeling it? A series of molecules touch my tongue, and i taste it....

without the brain these things are just there, they have no meaning, no one to experiencing them to put them into a perceptive definition...

the brain, has formed everything you know, and will ever know, because everything we know is based off what the brain experiences around itself. Im not saying the brain formed the universe, but i am saying that rock over there is only a rock because your brain tells you it is, without your brain its a bunch of atoms sitting in a certain series

  6. eh, its kinda what im saying

the universe exists whether we are here or not, but without something to perceive it, it has no meaning (in the sense of meaning, not that it has no purpose lol)

sound, is just waves, light is just waves, feelings (pain/warmth) are electrical impulses hitting your brain, same with taste and smell.

a big dream, a big reality, both are just perceptions our mind creates, is what im saying.

Op says they feel like they are in a dream, im saying our brain may as well be dreaming anyway, its a super processor of the information it sees around it, then it translates it into perception

Schizophrenia actually is kinda of a good example for this... well, some forms of it, but its when the barrier between your brains perception of reality and you brains ability to perceive mix together and it starts to conceive of things that arent there in the first place. But you have no way of knowing that.... to you its real as fuck

  7. Thanks for explaining,

Could smoking regularly make this perception of the world being a dream more enhanced as such? Or am i just being an idiot? :D

  8. Questioning your existence is part of being a human.... don't worry about it. you don't know where you came from or why you are here, so that is natural.

smoking can make you think more. i don't know exactly what you mean by the world being a dream... if you just mean life could just be a dream. i don't see why you are making a big issue over this. it's a common idea that this life could just be a dream....

  9. [quote name='"MoleyBear"']Thanks for explaining,

When you open your mind to the possibilities of things, the world seems less and less real sometimes hahahaaha

But, it can also get way too real sometimes....

    Such is life

  10. I knew it was a common idea but i think smoking just made me think about it a lot more and just made me wonder as i'd never really payed attention to anything of this sort

    Thanks

*Well, that is an entertaining conjecture! I often tell my philosophy students that the 2nd Greatest Invention of Man(kind) was the Invention of his own Reality. By that I mean, mankind's ability to exert control over a high variety (no pun intended) of alternate possibles other Realities [i.e., to create his own Subjective and Material Reality]. If this as taken as a viable premise, then marijuana smoking (i.e., getting high) induces a "state of Mind" that promotes introspection which leads sequentially to ''problem-solving" which by extension is a mechanism of "inventing his own Reality". In that during 'problem-solving" the individual is customizing his Experience.
