Exhaling smoke a minute after a bong hit?

Discussion in 'Beginner Cannabis Consumption & Tips' started by OGgarfield, Aug 26, 2012.

  1. I just took a massive rip and could only hold it in for about 5 seconds so I coughed, was just sat there blazed for a while and then randomly noticed I was breathing out more smoke. Did I not breathe for all that time or did it somehow not get blown out? When I took the rip I thought I blew out all the smoke too...
    Could be I'm just high:smoke:

  2. Sounds like your lungs are on fire, you might want to head over to a hospital.

  3. It's just some smoke that was still in your lungs.

  4. It's just smoke you haven't blown out yet. I could sit there smoking a bong and continuously blow out smoke for the next 30 seconds even when I thought I had none left in me.

  5. Or it could be that some particles cannot be absorbed by your lungs (not cannabanoids, as cannabanoids are absorbed by your lungs relatively quickly, but other substances created as a result of combustion) and those particles created in smoke form (since smoke is rather hot) were not able to disperse through open air and a lower ambient temperature, although some particles will solidify in your lungs because that's just part of the process of smoke cooling down, it leaves residue as it does so.

With your lungs being the organs that they are, they either absorb what goes into them, it is exhaled, or it is left to collect on the inside of your lungs. Possibly getting removed depending on the compound (because your lungs are amazing organs that have the ability to regenerate rather well(unsure as to how well the lungs are able to remove some compounds over others)) and possibly remaining in your lungs where it can create cumulative scar tissue, which is what leads to tumors. I wouldn't worry that much about that though, considering you don't smoke plastic or honey (which can recrystallize in your lungs).

Cannabis is, naturally, anti-cancer (some cannabanoids contain these properties, but not all), and as long as you're consuming it correctly then there is nothing to be concerned about. Almost all (95%+) of the cannabanoids are absorbed within 5 seconds, there's really no need to hold smoke longer.

But if you're breathing smoke out after a minute, you might not be breathing enough in between bong hits, and holding your breath is what kills brain cells -oxygen deprivation- not the consumption of cannabis. If you find yourself out of breath a lot after smoking, you might want to consider monitoring your breathing habits.
