Ever had bugs in hydro?

  1. So, i just potsed elsewhere pointing out that the easiest way to prevent pests is to just not use soil.

Im an extremely careless grower in regards to pest prevention.
Been at it 4 years in coco dtw/nft/dwc/hempys.
All things hydro in 4 locations and ive never seen a single bug anywhere. My home grow doesnt even have a tent.

So my question is, have you ever had bugs in a hydro grow?
    If so what were they?

Every post ive ever seen asking for advice on the matter has been from soil growers.
I use sm90 in my reservoirs and scillica but other than that nothing even remotely unusual.
I know each of them have preventative qualities but could they really put a full stop to it?

What you got folks? What pests have ruined your hydro crops and how did you deal with them?

  2. Yes sir
Freaking root aphids, by the time I figured out where are the damn bugs were coming from it was almost to late. Used this organic stuff. I'll update when I go down to the grow. Crop took a beating but it was salvageable. Never taking clones from an outside source again.

  3. Coco i presume mate? Surely cant get root aphids in a reservoir can you?

  4. Or did your clones come in soil and thats where they were?

  5. It was a dwc, 40 gallon res. Clones came in rock wool which was set in baskets. They must have been hunkered down in there. Started with a couple crawling on the lid, than 20, than 100's. The leaves started dying one.

  6. Huh there ya go. I didnt think it was possible to get those in a res.
Every day is indeed a school day.
    Unlucky bud :(

  7. Wow, you are really something, why don't you fact check BEFORE you make claims that you have absolutely no clue about...

Context was @Spanish@rcher claiming hydro cannot get infested with pests:

sorry I don't mean to be petty but it just grinds my gears when people spread false information without knowing the facts.

  8. Well to be petty in return, if you wanna get technical the only calim i actually made is that ive never had a bug in 4 years with any of the many hydro methods i use. Thats 100% true.
I stated that it might be down to the sm90 i use, it is advertised as being pest repellant.
I stated that it might be the scillica, thats also advertised as being pest reppelant.
And at no point did i actually say " you cannot get" and this thread is me asking the question of "can you" so theres that too. :)
    All good though :)

  9. I have a fair number of years of hydro growing under my belt. The only bugs I have seen in a res. fell in and drowned.:smoking:

  11. Haha quality, put a bit too much bleach in i take it lol.

  12. Yah.. like putting dish soap in a dishwasher. It actually worked out better that way, stuff got all on the pots and upper roots where the little shits were dug in.

  14. The plant I got that I’m flowering had fungus gnats what I got it but with good watering practices they went away in a day or two. That and a little cinnamon oil sprayed on the medium. But again this is coco. As far as straight hydro I’ve grown DWC a lot and I did spider mites once ended up having to harvest early and wash the bus which was awful!!!! Now I treat my tent like a clean room as much as I can.
