Evacuated Again!

Discussion in 'Real Life Stories' started by Storm Crow, Sep 7, 2022.

  1. So for the 3rd time, we were evacuated. We had no power, no internet, no water and even the landline phone went down! So my son called my dear friend Ellen and she said we could stay at her place. So that's where I've been since Friday. Ellen is even older than me and would have had a lot of trouble evacuating if the wind had changed direction, so she was glad to have us there.

The power came back on yesterday so we headed out to our place last night and are delaying unpacking everything since there may be thunderstorms later today and there's always a risk of new fires starting!

But the fridge is GROSS and needs a heavy duty cleaning (I'm procrastinating on that). Fortunately, my sons have already removed the rotted food, so all I have to do is scrub out the fridge.

But we are all OK and glad to be home!

And once again, I strongly suggest that all of you have a "go bag" with a few changes of clothes, your meds and stash, and some cash. It doesn't matter where you live, kids, disasters happen! You should also have a list of all those things that you want to save if you have time to pack things. If I have to get out in a real hurry, I grab my "go bag", computer, purse and my "treasure box" with irreplaceable keepsakes and ID and I'm good to go!

  3. What state are you in?
I have my32 ft RV, it has a propane/electric refrigerator, air conditioning and a 3000 watt Honda generator.
I can have the food from my home in the rv and ready to go ...in two hrs.

  9. I've been through three typhoons in Asia, 2 hurricanes here in the south, umpteen tropical storms and a half dozen tornados in Indiana/Illinois. I love storms.

  11. I fought forest fires out of Happy camp. ( some very steep mountains)
A small generator ( 1000 watts ) will pretty much power any refrigerator. and a mid sized swamp cooler.
Honda is top of the line generator

  12. I went through super typhoon Pamila. At sea .
It washed tug boats 2 miles inland on Guam .
    Pretty scary stuff

  13. The worst I was in was a Cat 3 hurricane and a Cat 2 typhoon. The tornados were way scarier to me. Due to my jobs on the military bases I had to drive around in my 4 x 4 pickup making sure the drains were cleared of floating coconuts. Kinda cool but when I drove along the sea wall that scared the crapola out of me due to the high waves.

  14. It was 180 mph winds at sea, pretty much hammered the shit out of my ship.
I was on a Destroyer escort, figures It had to be a smaller ship.
We took water down the stacks.
I went up to the bridge during the storm ,,,, thats when I got scared.
That storm was all that ...

  15. @ Dizzy Siskiyou county is as far north as you can go in California. Oregon is only about 2 hours from where I live. We have had two big fires here and over 100 homes in the nearest town have burned.

  17. @Dizzy The fire started in the nearest town but quickly spread to the forests. It got very big and burned through several neighborhoods. The closest fire has stopped growing and is more than halfway contained. We are over 2 miles from the nearest burned area. The air has been filled with smoke a lot of the time. But we are safe and in no danger at all, dear.

  19. @Dizzy Nobody knows if it was arson or just some kind of accident. It is known that it was not lightning-caused. A lot of people lost everything. On the news, they said about half the kids at a local school were absent today.
