>>>>I just wanted to let you know that I will be on the "The Colbert Report" tonight. It's 11:30 PM on Comedy Central and re-airs tomorrow (Tuesday) at 8:30 PM. (That's Eastern Time. Check the schedule at Comedy Central's website for times elsewhere.) Also, we'll post a recording of the interview on our website, so be sure to visit www.drugpolicy.org. I just quoted what the letter was. Enjoy!
Hopefully he'll be able to get a word in. Colbert almost always cuts off his guest. Some peope find it funny. I find it rude.
Its all just a joke the way he does it, its part of his TV "persona" I guess. It can be very rude, but you have to respect the man, he is quite a brilliant person.
I know it's all an act, but I don't find it funny it all. Neither do I respect him. Even though he is just acting to be funny, I feel it is not noticed by everyone. And he keeps beating this ultra conservative non-thinking ideal into everyones heads. I'd rather watch The Daily Show any time.
Wow. This interview is shit. I mean, this guy Ethan Nadelmann is not helping his own case by being so combative. I'm cringing right now, honestly. About to change the channel. There is no constructive debate here... Of course it's Colbert's job to egg on the guest and be a douche, I mean he does it every night. But this time it was really over the top. I think Nadelmann should have maybe sat back and shut up for a second and then got into a real discussion. That was the biggest waste of a good opportunity to enlighten people.
Colbert report isn't a debate show. It's a show where Colbert talks over all of his guests. At least he got put in his place this time. His own fans were clapping against him most of the time.
the interview pissed me off because colbert was such an ass, i used to have respect for him but it kinda disapeared after that
Colbert was a jerk, but Nadelmann was interrupting and getting pretty angry, too. The only thing you can do in that situation is humor Colbert's "accusations" and respond calmly. Everyone knows it's an act, so why could he have been a little cooler about it?
I think he took his chance, because he knew it would be nothing but a scratch of the surface sown into 5 minutes worth of talk-show jokes. I don't agree with what he did, but I see why he did it. I was also dissapointed that he didn't concentrate on the organized crime connection, or better yet, the tax money wasted on the war on drugs. He should have talked about things which appeal to voters. He was all over the place.
No kidding, right I'm going to watch the rerun at 1:30, I'm convinced I didn't hear the word 'marijuana' more than twice. He could have run with the alcohol prohibition parallel, but instead just decided to call Colbert "Al Capone's best friend"
I was just going to say the same thing. He kind of lost me when he kept screaming "You are a communist!" The only good point he got out was how much money we are spending on the drug war, and how many responsible adults we are jailing, besides that it was all just random unsupported points...Colbert made him look like a jackass. The last guest he had on before their break was a also a stoner who argued for legalization of marijuana, and the treatment of mental disorders with psychadellics, but Colbert let him get more than a few fragmented sentences out because he stayed calm and respectful, and he answered with extremely educated and interesting responses instead of getting in a shouting match. Overall, Ethans appearance did very little to spread the truth about marijuana.
He mentioned both of those, only once however. I'm surprised he even got to mention those over all of Colbert's wisecracks. Also, I feel he handled the situation very well. Most guests that don't try and talk over Colbert just get repeatedly pounded by his jokes. I think if anything Americans will respond to an aggressive, even over agrresive, approach much better than a passive man. However messed up that is, it's just the way it is in this country. EDIT: Rasta, I do agree with you that he was all over the place. But that was his only flaw in his talk in my opinion.
My god that guy bugged me, I'm a colbert and daily show regular viewer and that could possibly have been the most annoying interview I have ever seen. Seemed like all he wanted to do was shout dumb things like calling Steven a communist over and over (did he think it was funny?) .....you dont do that to Steven Colbert and gain respect with his audience and viewers. Could have been a good interview, could have got his point across non aggresivly. He shouldnt have said "Lets start with marijuana", Colbert killed him with the "You blame the law for the criminal" line. If he had said something like 'take the resources away from hunting dope fiends, regulate it, and focus on harder more problematic drugs' it would have been impressive. But thats just me
BRAVO ETHAN He did a great job considering the Tool he was interviewed by. Let's not forget who owns Comedy Central and What partisan they're fully involved with(Fox and the Republicans, the sole people responsible for prohibition). Everything he said was true, especially the part where he told Cobert that almost ALL his people watchin at home has probaly sparked up before hand, BRAVO, Ethan. Screw Fox and all they're tools
If it weren't for recreational drugs, I'd never watch the Comedy network.... seriously... I don't like TV all that much, but there a few shows that I adore when I'm high... just funnier than when sober.
Did we see the same interview? Fox may or may not own Comedy Central, I'll take your word for it. But have you ever seen The Daily Show? I don't think partisan politics plays much of a role there...and I would hope you understand Colbert's rampant Republicanism is tounge-in-cheek. I also don't remember hearing that Republicans and the Fox Network were responsible for prohibition (alcohol, marijuana or otherwise).
