Essential oils

  1. Hey everyone. Been experimenting with some essential oils recently. I've read that lavender oil is one of the only oils you can put on your skin directly - is that true? Anyone had experience with this, or might recommend some further reading...?

    Thanks!

  2. I have some and the bottle says not to apply directly to skin. I put a little oil in a spray bottle with water or even mix it with some coconut oil. I can't verify how true it is that you can put it directly on skin.

  3. It might depend on the strength and purity of each respective oil. Not are essential oils are created equal.

  5. I enjoy honey oil. But to use it as a topical, it would get very expensive.

  7. Hello there , I ve tried experimenting on the Nyassa 's Carrier Oil and EO .Yes they shouldn't be applied directly on the skin .....Can be used in a pillow mist, diffuser, bathtub, massage oils and bathing water.

  8. Peppermint oil is good for sore muscles and I use coconut oil for my beard and hair.

  9. Most of them are safe, mix with magnesium or other carrior oils to help dilute and absorb better. Be careful on powerful ones like oregano they need to be diluted. I don't think they can burn skin but if you take it orally can burn your mouth/throat glands if not mixed with coconut or olive oil beforehand.

  13. That's not true you can also put sandalwood, frankincense and clay sage oil on the skin. Organic lemongrass oil can help fight pimples by acting as an antimicrobial.

  14. Rosemary too.

Together they smell like some kind of gas but the only time I've ever had spider mites (they came from cuttings from a supposed pro grower) it sorted them out with a few sprays a day for a few days.

As for essential oils; big fan of them here.

Have made my own aftershave before, it only needs a few EOs and some perfumier's alcohol, good advice would be to check with IFRA (International Fragrance Assoc) that you're not using oils in higher concentrations than recommended.

There's also CosIng which is the EU Cosmetic Ingredients Database which tells you which oils you can use to which limits, which have allergens that need highlighting like limoline and limolool etc but let your nose guide you first, then check your proposed recipe is going to be safe before testing it on your skin.

Many oils can be applied to skin directly, not all need a carrier, though some can cause skin irritation in high concentrations hence the general advice to dilute.

  15. Do you have direct experience with this yourself or are you just blindly passing on rumors?

I have used countless different essential oils over the last decade, never notice any burn even from stronger ones. All you need is a bit of common sense when working with super strong ones and maybe not swallow them without dilution like oregano and clove ect.. but on the skin, especially around the arms, legs and other areas of the body where the skin isn't too thin and sensitive you are highly unlikely to get chemical burn.

These are potent substances yes, 1 drop of peppermint essential oil is like drinking 10 - 20 cups of peppermint tea but nature is much more intelligent than you understand. Maybe if you use something synthetic sure, but its quite rare to experience anything serious from pure essential oils unless you are not using your brain.

    Common sense people.

  16. I could see someone getting burnt if the EO was bunk like someone just tossed in random chemicals and passed it off as EO.

But I will tell you I have been hurt by EO because I didn’t fully quite grasp how concentrated they are so I put pure peppermint on a sunburn and I’ll be honest, I cried!! Lol! So it was user error, AKA my own fault haha. I love EO and this summer, I diluted it correctly and yep, that burn cleared up in 2 days rather than a week if i were to ignore and or apply just aloe. Oh yeah, it felt SO GOOD. I highly recommend you guys to do a foot soak with some peppermint in there.

Lavender is a must for bedtime and I even recommend a few drops on the wrist or even the forehead/temples before bed.

I’m not too educated with brands as DoTerra or YoungLiving but I know if it has supplement facts, you can ingest it. Although there are debates whether ingesting EO is safe or not - I haven’t done too much research on it. I have ingested DoTerra and I was just fine.

Do you guys think brands matter? Or what do you EO folk look for in a product? :)

  17. I've also been using a few diluted drops of essential oils with some purified water and rubbing alcohol for a homemade hand sanitizer. Lasts far longer and seems to be less harsh on my skin than those store bought ones.
