    hi everyone,

I have just lost 4 of my plants due to major temperature fluctuations in my attic grow :(
I am in need of some advice on how to maintain temperature and humidity. I have been doing a lot of reading and have found this thermostat https://www.progrow.co.uk/acatalog/info_3365.html
I was thinking of connecting a heater to one end of this device and some form of cooling device to the other end???

So far i am letting the natural environmental temperature take control. Humidity is fluctuating way too much and so is temperature. My plants only grew to 2 inches (from seed) in a 3 week period which i guess isn't normal :(

    So back to the device....

Would i be best to get the thermostat device, a heater, a fan speed controller and an extractor fan (I am using a passive intake) or is there any cheaper options available?

I also have a problem with finding somewhere to exhaust the fan to. I have a slate missing from my roof which is covered by a bit of wood that i remove to let fresh air in on a hot day.

My ideal setup would be as follows:

    TE25 thermostat controller
Extractor fan (connected to fan speed controller)
    Heater (connected to thermostat)
Fan speed controller (connected to thermostat)
Active charcoal filter connected between extractor fan

However this setup is expensive!! Can I get around my problem with a cheaper alternative??

    thanks

  2. Unless it is getting super humid up there, I don't think humidity is a problem. I too grow in an attic and the major problem I have is with heat. In the winter, I have to pipe cold air in from outside to maintain a decent temp in my grow box and in summer, I have to use air conditioning to keep things right.

I am assuming since it is summer, your problem is with heat build up. I would vent the exhaust from your box out of the hole that you mentioned. I'd also either install an air/con or pipe in some a/c'd air into the attic.

No matter how you vent your box, the temp will always be x degrees over ambient (room) temperature.

  3. Hi mate thanks for your reply.
The humidity can fluctuate anywhere between 30% to 70% - is this a problem?
What make/model/spec of air conditioner would you recommend?
I don't have a grow box as such, all i have done is isolated half of the attic into two quarters using cardboard walls. I have also left a space in each wall to crawl through which is permanently open, so that fresh air is getting drawn in from the other half of the attic (acting as a passive inlet for fresh air.)

I just don't have the cash really :(

Any further info would be greatly appreciated..thanks again :)
