enough lighting?

    (id post a pic but i dont have my digital camera available) i have a 400 watt HPS grow system going....plants are looking amazing. i started 8 plants off hoping to get 5 or so females to grow. and it looks as though all 8 are females!! is this enough lighting? what are my options from here........im thinkin ill prolly have to choose two to be removed??

    Number of plants isn't the most important factor, it's all about square feet. In a SOG grow you could have maybe 50 plants under a 400W lamp. A decent ScroG might only have one.

    So, how big were the plants vegged?
    What's your style of grow?
    etc.

    i'm in the same boat as you. 4 skunk #1's and 3 fem white widows with a 400w hid. the skunk seeds were the result of a mostly female hermie pollenating other female skunks, so if they're all female i'll have space issues. this is the only time i've ever wished for a couple males lol! i've got an old sunsystem 250w just in case and it looks like i might need it. maybe a sog next grow, idk... good luck.

    I'd say SOG or plan on adding more light or chopping down a couple. How big is your grow area?

    tried to post a couple pictures but it says the file is too large, how do i change that?

    Two easiest ways I think is to either take the picture into paint, cut out only the important part and re save, or upload the file to a file storage site like putfile or photobucket. There are other ways, but those are the easiest to explain.

    Yeah your going to have to chop a couple in all likelyhood. Wait till your absolutely sure of the sex though before you chop.

    Flat white paint is better than tin-foil.

    To pack in more plants, use square pots.

    When you take cuttings to sex them. Take an extra cutting of each. Dry it and smoke it - the growing shoots can be quite potent. If they all turn out to be females, simply chop the least potent plants.

    Rubbing the stems and smelling your fingers is another good indicator.

    thanks mu, one turned out hermi so thats one gone....not sure how when i have no light leaks? i had a couple power failures that only lasted a couple mins, is it possible that that was the cause?

    Interrupting the day cylce for a few minutes, even an hour wouldn't cause hermies. Interrupting the night cycle could, though.

    Cold can also cause hermies, as can any extreme stress.

    You don't have to kill hermies if it's a temporary thing with one or two pods, so long as you catch the pods before they open, which is actually quite difficult, unless you use a green light and check during the dark periods, too.
