I believe I've found mold on the bottom of my pot and I don't know what to do. Im using 100% coco coir and humidity is between 50 and 60% at all times. Do I transplant? Do my plants stand a chance? What could have caused it?
You should add 1mL/L of 30%H2O2 to your media. May need to initially flush with a stronger concentration, but I use 1ml/L and have no mold or algae with my plants.
That’s probably just salt buildup. You really should have some Perlite in the coco too, about 30%. Always feed to waste and add drip clean to nutes to avoid salt buildup.
I didnt feel it with my fingers, but I wasn't really aware that salt could build up like that.. (I'm a beginner, these are my first plants) Just to be sure I scraped it off and aired out the room.
Oh yeah definitely, my first grow I had some bad white deposits on my pots, thought it was mold, did everything I could to try and clean it off to find out that it was salt deposits.
its mold on the side of the pots. you need to get some air moving in that room . you need to vent the room out and keep it vented. your humidity is to high, your lucky mold is only on the pots and not on the plants yet. scraping this mold off is the worst thing you can do it will send it air born and make mold spores landing onto plants walls so on. just get this room vented out problem solved.
As stated above, it’s probably salt. Get some Perlite in your mix too. Coco is different that soil growing. Always feed to waste and add drip clean to help with salt buildup
If its the first time using tbem pots i doubt its salt build up in such a short time over a grow it can build up. If mold its a fluff white i wouldnt worry grey brown green black then worry a bit more Sent from my SM-G950F using Grasscity Forum mobile app
If its possible to ease out the coco dunno.how long its been in there you coukd mix it in but if the plant is likely to have sent tap root down to the bottom its too late on such a small plant if it was like a mother plant You can with 2 people wash the roots down with shower head make a new mix suspend her in a pot and put the mix in the pot but its a stressful proceedure and would likely kill a young plant Sent from my SM-G950F using Grasscity Forum mobile app
The pot has been used with other plants before.. I washed it out with hot water before planting the cannabis. They have been growing for 2.5 weeks now.
It's probably just a common root zone fungus. I wouldn't get too worried. Roots and mold have a symbiotic relationship. As long as it's not the wrong fungus.
Just use peroxide already lol. After reading a few of the comments, I should add that a grow room and its equipment (including pots) should be washed and bleached on a regular basis. Some people even use sulfur burners to ward off the unwanted (I don't but would if I owned a unit). There are other products that introduce beneficial microorganisms, but I wouldn't assume that what is growing there is beneficial to the plant. See products like Hydroguard, or GH's subculture lines. As well, you are in coco, not organic soil. There is no requirement for microorganisms to 'make nutrients available for the plant' as far that I am aware of.
If you grow in Promix it's quite similar to coco. In fact coco is the 2nd ingredient, but it has included mycorrhizae in the bag. I think many hydro growers assume that they don't need microbes. In DWC or some hydro systems if you never supplement microbes IMO you will eventually have a problem with root rot. You can take two approaches to hydro. Sterile or you can supply root microbes. It's pretty established that the right microbes can dramatically increase surface area of the root mass and increase feed rate. The microbes don't function as well or the same way as they do in an organic plant but they do benefit the plant even in hydro. IMO you will get more yield by supplementing compared to trying to grow sterile. It's very similar to trying to run a human digestive system with no gut flora. The plant is not just the plant like we are not just a human. There's an evolved relationship with other organism that give the plant optimal health. Humans are the same way. If you just took antibiotics your whole life it would be similar to dosing a plant with H2O2 it's whole life. Plants are pretty tough. They have their own immune systems. I wouldn't automatically assume that the fungus is a big problem unless the plant was responding negatively. It doesn't appear to be doing so. Make sure you have plenty of airflow and exhaust and that will prevent mold from growing on the plants themselves. An enzyme supplement can help break up dead organic material in the root zone if there's anything there. Typically if you do have bad growth it's feeding on dead material. The enzymes can help dissolve it and bring the microbe balance back to health. There is a constant battle of good and bad bacteria and fungus going on. I would feed it some barley based pond clarifier or some hygrozyme or cannazyme along with some root zone microbes that are both bacterial and fungal. GH's rapid start has both. Most root zone microbe supplements are either bacterial like hydroguard or fungal like AN's piranha. Fight bag growth with living weapons not chemotherapy.
Strong hydro nutrients can cause a drop in populations of root microbes in hydro grow methods. You can fight this with carb supplements like budcandy and Gh flora nectar. They give the microbes something to eat. Supplying microbes, sugars, and using enzymes to break up dead material has helped me have some of the best root balls I've ever seen in DWC.
looking nice. wonder if anybody tried to eat roots deep fry lmao. im a bit drunk i bet somebody has cooked with roots before.
