Elizabeth Warren

  1. Right now we have system where the government grants a monopoly to a power company.

What is their to answer. Basically power companies would be like any other company competing to provide the best service at the cheapest price. Do I need to provide you with a link to capitalism or just economics 101?

  2. My husband and most of my closest friends work in the energy industry. I understand the industry.

I get your ability to do a google search. I want to hear in ~your own words how a completely privatized~ energy grid would work.

  3. "If you're caught with an ounce of cocaine, the chances are good you're gonna go to jail. If it happens repeatedly, you may go to jail for the rest of your life," Warren said. "But evidently if you launder nearly a billion dollars for drug cartels and violate our international sanctions, your company pays a fine and you go home and sleep in your bed at night -- every single individual associated with this. And I think that's fundamentally wrong." - Elizabeth Warren

Elizabeth Warren: Banks Get Wrist Slaps While Drug Dealers Get Jail

  4. Yeah, so, like, legalize drugs Lizzy. Nope. Didn't think so.

  5. yup..

lets complain about drug users being thrown in jail and lets complain about the billions of dollars going to the cartels via the banking system..

but at the same time she'll campaign to keep drugs illegal..

yeah she sounds sane to me..

  6. I can think of one such entity that both raids and prosecutes marijuana growers whilst giving marijuana to certain individuals.

I would also like for legalization so such discrepancies do not occur

  7. Dude. Dude. Dude. You are not clever. Stop with the sarcasm. Go pick up a book. And reaaaaad it.

  8. Apparently Elizabeth Warren is not only talking about free university but now she's talking about cancelling student debt. I understand how student loans can be overwhelming but what about the guys who worked their butts off and lived on rice and beans in order to pay their own way? It's like paying everyone's car loans off, the people who drive reliable beaters to avoid payments and save their money for the inevitable rainy day don't benefit and the guys who have nice expensive cars with big payments skate. It certainly sends the wrong message for how to manage our resources.

  9. But don't you ever complain about about burning fossil fuels, or bailing out the banks, the insurance industry, the auto industry, raising the military budget AGAIN, tax breaks for billionaires AGAIN........Cancelling student debt is a small step in the RIGHT direction.

  10. Who’s gonna pick up the tab on the forgiven student loans? Who’s gonna pay for the “free” college?

If you can’t afford college, then don’t go major in gender studies with a minor in basket weaving.

  11. There are even more things that those you've listed I don't complain about. If I complained about everything I disagreed with all I do would be to complain. I gave you my rationale for why I didn't think cancelling student debt was a good idea, if you think I'm wrong then explain why. Saying it's a step in the right direction tells me your opinion but it doesn't tell my why you think that way. Unless we give our rationale for our opinions our arguments boil down to "yes it is....no it's not.....yes it is....no it's not" And regarding the tax cuts, we all got the same tax cut. It was a cut in percentage of the income taxes are assessed on. Of course those who pay little will get a smaller dollar amount even though they got the same tax cut. You can't cut taxes if you don't pay any. It's my opinion that the rich do get a good deal on taxes, why should wages be taxed at a higher rate than capital gains, it makes no sense.

But I do appreciate your reply.

  12. This should be it's own thread, I don't care about Warren but this would be a pretty good topic. I'm not sure how it would work but I'm hardline against free college but entirely for student dept forgiveness. It's crippling my generation. Funny enough, this is literally a national socialist type policy in my opinion.

  13. Who picked up the tab for bailing out the banks? Who picked up the tab for bailing out the auto industry? Who picked up the tab for bailing out the insurance companies, who pick up the tab for military spending increases? Who picked up the tab for the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Yemen?

And you're worried about how we're gonna pay to educate our kids for the demanding jobs of tomorrow?

  14. This isn't about educating our kids for the future, forgiving student loans is about past loans. There's a big difference in forgiving pasts loans and providing free university. We need to know the rules going in and everyone lives under the same rules. I have no problem offering free tuition to a four year state university, I think it's worth it to society and the cost will be made up by collecting more taxes from better paying jobs but forgiving past loans is making it free for the folks who took out the loans and having the working student pay for theirs.

  15. Forgiving student loan debt will only help the economy not hurt it. As far as past student loans already pay for, maybe they should advocate for reparations.

  16. I want a refund for the tuition I paid in the 70s.
