electric bill question

  1. If i was to run a 400w hps light 24/7 my bill wouldnt be anything crazy right just maybe like 10$ more a month or so?

  2. My 400 watt HPS costs about $30 to $40 a month to run at 18 hours a day! I live in Southern California (socal edison). Maybe it would be wiser to go with an 18/6 schedule instead of 24/0.

  3. I run a 400w hps, about 250w of cfls, and 80w of t-5, two inline fans, the air pumps, the house fans, everything for about 25 bucks a month.

    Duke Energy

  4. i wish i paid what you guys do i pay around 100-150 for just a 400 watt and the 2 inline fans a month frickin sucks paying 28 cents a kw

  5. Dude do the math its soooo easy.

    I use 500W/hr and am running 18/6

    18hr/day X 500watts/hour X 30 days in my billing cycle DIVIDED BY 1000 (puts the kilo in kilo-Watt) = 270kW/hr

    270kW X $.45 (my cost for a single kW/hr) = $121.50

    Its not guess work.

  6. Just do the math.
    400w x 24 hrs x 30 days =288000watthrs= 288kwh.
    If you pay 28cents per kwh then 288 * .28= $80.64

    Good luck!

  7. ok here we go thanks $0.12 x 288 = $34.56

  8. lol to all these different answers... it depends on the cost that you are paying pet kwh:) you guys are too funny that know it all.

  9. Yes we know this but we're trying to show how it varies by location at different costs. If this was "The Price is Right" then I would win since I quoted him the closest! :D

  10. Exactly. The light could cost you $10 in one state and $60 in another, depending on what you pay per Kw. I run 6 fans, 2x400hps' and 3 x 125w cfls and a bubble cloner and my bill went up by $120-140

    Rhode Island- National Grid

  11. For sure, my 400w setup runs my bill another $80, fucking worth it though.

  12. I have a cost page on my excel spreadsheet that i use for tracking ppm temps growth etc. I have a KWH field and I have a column for 24 18 and 12 on times and I put appropriate wattage of fixtures there. My growing bill is about $300 a month for electricity since I am in the $.29/KWH SoCal Edison Also. Keeping track of costs is as important as keeping track of growth.
