Does anyone have any experience with using egg shell powder in your pots as or for calcium supply? I have it grinded into a fine powder (almost like Gaia Green consistency) How long does it take to work. It's powder so shouldn't be too long now eh?
best way to use it is put it under your plants you can brown the shells then crush and put in rice vinegar and watch the glass jar thump it every day until you see no bubbles at all and you have liquid calcium burn the shell and crush do the same with vinegar watch the bubbles when there isnt any you have liquid phosphrus if you just have shells crushed , a tsp of vinegar to 2 tsp of crushed shells or about the consistency of a milk shake. then dig a hole drop in the mix , put a couple inchs of compost then a couple inchs of soil ,put your transplant on top of it , the shells will break down i do this with tomato plants and it stops blossom end rot
the deal is to cook or burn the shell before crushing most in north 'merica won't need the extra (Ca) as there's much already in the local water, but it can be used to annoy bugs, once laid on top like that DE earth cheers
Why did both of you suggest cooking the shells? Is the char contained with more beneficial shit? The liquid will have suspended Calcium Acetate in it. It can also be boiled off and where the C₄H₆CaO₄ crashes in the solution and turns into a white powder. Did this before while I was baked and forgot it on the cook top and burnt the powder. How does this work? Is it due to the ash?
Cooking it suppoedly turns it into a more available form. Burning the shells won't create phosphorous that isn't there, but charring bones let's you extract phosphor with vinegar. I've got some crab meal I'm gonna try this with. Should work the same.
yes when you burn them good , the ash is the phosphrus by browning them you have calcium if you plan on trying this it is easier on the nose by burning them on the grill you can also use bone
