Ed's Coconut Grove - Sharksbreath (DNA Genetics)

  1. update ed? :D PLZ!

  2. i'm craving an update too, c'mon ed!

and respond to my PM too, haha:wave:

  3. So I've been using similar water with molasses and calmag+ and it has gone a little bit rancid I think. Like it smells a little bit funny. Is this bad? Is it because I had the cap on the jug? Should I throw it out?

  4. It will only last a few days before it goes south. Ed does not use anything once the smell appears...

Sorry everyone, he has been taking care of the girls and playing Black Ops for some much needed downtime. Sharksbreath is doing wonderfully and the biggest girl in the closet at the moment.

  5. Mr or MrsEd im assuming that the molasses is what makes the water smell bad after a couple days and not the cal mag.am i correct when thinking this??

im going to be setting up a automated water system using a 18 gal tupperware tub and the water may stay in the tub for about 4 or 5 days and dont want to add anything in the water that will start smelling after a day or 2.i def plan to put an air stone in there to aerate but do you guys think it would be a better idea to ditch the molasses in the recipe?? i think using a liquid product like sugar daddy or sucanant sugar might be better.

mr ed? what other products in your watering lineup would you say makes the water go bad after a couple days..bc i wrote down all the things you add in your water and maybe will try them out in the automated watering system but dont want anything in there that wont last..

  6. the molasses starts to break down after about a day or so and thats when "the smell" appears. cal mag is cool to sit for a few days longer just like your other nutrients. If you are planning to let your solution sit, i would wait until watering to add the molasses to ensure it doesnt go sour on you.

  7. Hey Ed, awesome grow. :)

Just a little question... Does adding gypsum to your coco cause the ph within the soil to go high? I read somewhere it has a PH of 7.3

So I was wondering if your runoff with using gypsum still within range?

  8. thanks mike..just the info i needed.currently i dont have any mollases but since i ll be doing a water resevoir with drip system im gonna leave out the mollases.it would prolly gunk up my pump/drippers anyway.using a product like sweet thats more of a water based liquid would prolly be better...i duno if that would cause a smell after a couple days though

  9. update please? hows the pretty lady doing, ed?

  10. Ed is in the game.... Casey is doing OK, about threee weeks until chop. She is just one of those bitchy girls where nothing makes her too happy. She looks fine to me but Ed is hating on her for looking fugly. Her daughter had been thrown in but has been ejected from the flower space due to poor performance. There are other strains which behave better so it may be the end of the line for that strain, but not sure on that.

  11. My bad everyone. I reported on the original Sharksbreath Casey however Ed told me last night this journal is for the daughter of her. So on that note....we had some heat issues in the beginning with the tent and then putting that 1000w in and she had a bit of a hard time. She is the one I mentioned getting ejected however she seems to want to stay around and had nice green growth last night so she gets another day to get her shit together or else....

Sorry for the mix-up there.

  12. Hi MrsED I wanted to ask if you all got the original casey from DNA Fem sharksbreath, or regular seeds? I am thinking of growing this strain but am afraid of hermies due to DNA only offering it in Fem nowadays. I'm looking for a good scrog strain 3x3 screen 3-4 plants? What do you grow in your scrogs? thanks.

  13. Yep, it was a DNA Fem'd seed. You can't live in fear, just go for it, if it hermies on you then it hermies on you but you won't know until you try. ;)

I had an BF LSD in the scrog and she did beautifully however the draw back is that her branches could get a bit stiff so you had to be on it training her from the start to bend to your will. :D The other one that Ed started off with in the very first scrog was a mexican schwag seed that hermied. Nothing in a scrog at the moment....:( I suspect I will do a scrog again sometime next year.

  14. Thanks for the info. I'm just hesitant to use any fem seeds but dna is supposed to be some of the most solid genetics and I think sharksbreath is one of their older more worked strains on top of that, so hopefully all will work out.

  15. We typically use fem'd seeds and I have not seen an issue with any due to genetics and we have had from a number of breeders now. Go for it!

  16. Hello, I have a DNA fem Sharksbreath that was pollinated by a trichd out male rocklock about 3 days from harvest. I was also worried about the hermie issue, but have read on other threads and forums that it really hasnt been an issue. How do you breed a Casey? I was looking into the martianmean green. BTW, amazing Sharksbreath thread you guys, Ive yet to get my sharksbreath to look like that before harvest.

  17. No breeding going on around here, just no space for it. He thought about going down that road a few months back but just no time/space for it at the moment. Casey is the Sharksbreath "family name". He names each one after a porn star. Casey Parker is for the Sharksbreath strain.

Sharksbreath seems to be a fussy one but I am sure you will get her all plumped up for harvest! :hello:

  18. Hey Ed! Great grow you have going on here! I have been following your grows lately, and I must say your promotion of coco and results here in have converted me for life. I have a few quick questions about this particular grow... do your cuttlings go directly into the ammended coco containing the marine cuisine, gypsum, sul-po-mag and azomite? or do you root with a coco/perlite mix first then transplant to the ammended coco? Also, with the coco ammended, do you still use your grow and bloom nutes or are they not required with the ammended coco? Assuming that you do, how early would you typically start adding nutes to your cuttlings once rooted? and how often do you feed with nutes? Every other watering?

I picked up some seeds from attitude, and will be hitting up my local compassion club for a few clones. What I would like to do is follow your methods, but scrog a 4x4 screen under a 1000w hps. I plan on ammending the coco just as you have here with perlite, azomite, Marine Cuisine, sul-po-mag and garden lime (for cal and mag). I will also use the watering/nute recipe you have created here and use this immediately once the girls break ground - or should I wait?

I have practically everything in place, just waiting to move into my new house to start this off. Sorry to bombard you with questions, just hoping for some clarification. Thanks as always!

  19. Ed does the clones in the mix, really whatever seems to be on hand at the moment here lately. He has been going off a nute program along with the amended coco lately. When they show they are hungry he gives them light nutes otherwise they have the base water. He has been giving the most recent clones light veg nutes or base right off the bat. Again, whatever was readily available at the time needed.

Your plan sounds good. Personally, I would say one strain for your screen would be best unless you know already they are similiar in their growing styles. Congrats on the new house and good luck on your grow. Sounds like you are well on your way. :hello:

  20. Thanks MrsEd! I figured my assumptions were correct, just wanted to check with the parents of coco here in GC! Keep up the great work, I really enjoy your threads!
