Sorry to repost this topic, but you guys didn't give me enough time to comment on your responses to my previous thread. I understand that a change was made to prevent original posters from deleting a year old thread with 10000 responses, but what about those of us who like to keep a clean journal or thread with an index on page 1? As an example, it would take someone a few hours to read every thread in my first journal. I get several compliments on users who find the index extremely useful and spend a lot of time "cleaning house" so to speak. This change makes it far more difficult for new viewers to bring themselves up to speed. Is there any way we can still update the first thread (even if it exceeds 7 days) without having the ability to modify the title or delete the thread all together?
It's all or nothing. You can't set it so that just the first post can be edited. It's not in the system to do it. Sorry. The best thing I can recommend is to have a Mod edit it for you or have a Mod close the original thread and you make a Part 2 with a link to the original thread and a link to Part 2 can be put in the original thread.
Ah well, thought I'd suggest it regardless I'd hate to hassle the mods with modifying the chaos that I call my journals. I guess the up side of all of this is that I'll spend less time posting/editing - more time working!
I guess if you still wanted a way to have an index in your thread without having a mod edit the main post, maybe you could update and repost the index once every few pages or so and just let people know in the opening post that they will be able to find an index within the last few pages no matter how long the thread gets. Just an idea.
