Eating Disorder?

Discussion in 'Medical Cannabis: Treatments & Patient Experiences' started by ilcstoning, Apr 6, 2005.

  1. Ok so I've considered MM for the migraines I get but didnt becuase I was scared to ask a doctor. Instead I was perscribed Imetrx, which helps my migraines, however I still am not able to be out and fucntioning for a day or two and it makes me feel very drowsy. Lately I have not been very hungry, and when I dont eat I get headaches. So I now force myself to eat, and when I do I become nauseated (but have yet to throw up from it) It's not anorexia, I have no self psycological (sp?) weight issues. I just don't feel hungry... It's really different, it's becoming a problem now, I used to like to eat, but now eating is just something to "get past" Do you think I could use MM for this? Can I ask my regular doctor about it? Is this a known disease of some sort? Your input would be greatful, thanks. peace.

  2. I never liked imetrex; it really didn't do anything for me. I've always preferred vicodin if I had to take a pill. But the MJ will help you a lot. It eases off the headaches. It will relax you but won't make you sleepy like pills do, unless you are prone to drowsiness when you smoke.

It will also help the nausea and lack of appetite. In fact, I have to watch how much I eat when I smoke. I am like you in that I often get nauseous when I eat, however, it doesn't happen when I smoke prior to eating.

Are you having any other stomach problems that you've not mentioned?

  3. No I don't have any problems with my stomach that I know about. Just not hungry and often nauseous. Can I get MM for lack of appetite? Can I ask my regular doctor, or do I need a special one. Will my doctor recommend it or do I have to ask. I am really scared of asking. I might be going to the doctor soon just to see what is up. But I dont know. Peace.

  4. Well,If you have seen your doctor for years and know him, mention Doctor/patient privledge to privacy and ask him/her. Tell the doctor about loss of appetite and that MJ really helps. Explain it pretty much like your post above.

By law, the doctor cannot blab and if they do, you can sue. Atleast, that is how it is supposed to work. But I do see why your nervous. If it was me, I would do alot of thinking on how I would bring it up. Good luck tho, and hope things work out for the best. Also depends on what your state laws are but by you asking, I presume you are in one of the luckier states that have a MM law.

  5. Marijuana works very well for migraines, I can tell you that firsthand. Not only does it help get rid of a migraine-in-progress, but since I started smoking heavily, my migraines have stopped almost completely. It's very likely that it's just coincidence, but I don't care. All that matters to me is that the headaches are gone. And, I still enjoy smoking recreationally.

As for talking to your doctor, do it. Don't even worry about it. Being honest with your doctor is the best way to go anyway. Even if your doctor risked his career by breaking doctor-patient confidentiality, it's not illegal for you to have smoked pot in the past, or to consider smoking it in the future (especially for medical reasons). It's just illegal to actually be in possession of marijuana or paraphernalia.

I'd say you are definitely a good medical marijuana candidate. Marijuana is VERY well-known to help with eating disorders (even many ignorant non-smokers know about the munchies), and in the medical community it is also known to relieve pain and nausea.

  6. I got tired of all the judgemental doctors out there. I don't even mention smoking to my doctors anymore. I just do it. I medicate on my own and get med advice about MJ from holistic healers.

I might reconsider being more open with my doctor when our state gets some decent med MJ laws. till then, I'll keep my mouth shut.

  7. is the lack of appetite a side effect of the imetrx? i know that when you sometimes take meds that it will make you nauesous if you dont eat before or a bit after you take it. on the matter of bringing it up with the dr, just say that you ran out of the imetrx and a stoner friend suggested pot and sure enuff, it works! thats if you still dont feel comftorable talking about it. he cant legally do anything. and if he says anything the cops will probally, at worst, search you house maybe. and then you can sue ur dr and buy alot of MJ with the money you make.

  8. I'm just afraid to bring it up with my normal doctor, but I would really like to have him reccomend it somehow, do regular doctors ever do that? And if he does shut me down when i ask where do I go, Id rather have my normal doctor reccomend me to a doctor than having to pick my own. peace.

  9. btw I'm in california near San Francisco and Oakland, thats gotta be useful?

  10. I hope you are ok~I'm pretty sure you can ask your Doctor About the use of marijuana to help with you not eating. Be like... I heard somewhere Marijuana helps prevent headaches and will make me hungry instead of sick... Mention mmaybe 1 or two other things that wont really help compaired to the MJ~

Thats how I'd go about it

    Hope you're ok!~kristen

  11. Heres what I would do (and i live in your area). Check the newspapers... a few times I have seen ads for pro-pot doctors who will perscribe it to you if you have the right symptoms. It might cost ya a hundred bucks or so to make an appointment but from what you have been describing I am sure you could get a MM license. I really wouldn't even bother bringing it up with my regular doctor as most of them are not pro mj.

  12. :D

  13. Thanks for all the help you guys. I'm not that worried about going in unless I start losing weight, which I havn't because I force myself to eat if I don't use MJ. But thats not the way it's supposed to work is it now? lol. Thanks for the help. peace.
