Easy power for PC Fans for stealth grows

  1. Just wanted to toss this out there.
Today I was trying to figure out how to power some PC Fans I picked up for a small stealth grow. There are a lot of guides out there about writing USB cables or wall wart adapters, and this was the route I had planned on going down even though its rather confusing with the whole 5v vs 12v bit.
In the end I realized I already had suitable power source, the power adapter for my old USB SATA/IDE adapter. It outputs 12V @ 2a and fans can be connected with molex adapters which most PC fans come with anyway. At 2 amps you could run quite a few fans; my own fans only require 12v @ 0.07a and 0.1a.
So if you have one lying around, might as well use it instead of going throug the work of custom wiring. Looks like this:
