ok so i have decided to try to grow 6 plants....theve been planted for a couple days and are just breaking the surface i know only a couple at best will be female so i was just wondering what is the actuall process for "cloning" a plant do i just chop some roots off and let it grow in a differant pot are there any special techniques anyone could advise me to do
http://www.ganjaguerrilla.net/ go to streaming video's and cloning 101 jfyi this probably needs to be in the beginner section and not advanced growing. and also has been discussed across the site, so the search is always your friend! GL
cut clones (after you remove it from the plant)at 45 degree angle underwater and keep the then of the stem in darkness and the top of the plant in low light, and leave it in the water for 3 to 4 weeks a start checking for roots.
The easiest way to keep clones from dying after you cut them is to let them grow roots while they are still on the mother plant, guranteed 100% will live. Strip off the outer layer of the stem and put rooting gel on it, cover the exposed part of the stem with a rockwool cube and wrap in aluminum foil to keep light out. Water every day or every other day depending on how fast the rockwool dries out. In less than a week it will grow roots, cut it off just under the rockwool cube and you've got a healthy clone that already has roots.
Baron/coldy: It's called air layering. Unless you fuck it up really bad you will have 100% success. Period. One quick note though, do NOT scrape the stem all around the plant. Only scrape the stem on like 2 sides. If you scrape all around the stem anywhere on the plant, you destroy all the nutrient transport and everything above it will DIE with a 100% certainty. So, in review, only cut like 3 shallow grooves on each side of the stem without any overlap. Just enough damage to force the plant to heal where you want it to grow roots. FYI, this technique may also be used without cutting the clone off. That way the branch will have nutrient uptake from both the host's stem and its own roots. Whether or not this will give you bigger buds on that branch, well I don't know. It's worth a try though.
Hmm, I'm not sure that there are any surviving (although OG used to have info on it when OG existed). However, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_layering explains it pretty well. It's not difficult. Just don't cut rings around the stem. EDIT: http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/extension/ornamentals/airlayer/airlayer.html do NOT use fig.1. The other wounding technique works, but it doesn't need to be that complicated. I would just completely slice off a few small sections of bark in the region you want to grow roots and then cover with rockwool/peat moss/clay+compost. Rockwool is best, but peat moss+clay/compost has the advantage that it will adhere to the stem pretty well, making the process a little easier. Plus, rockwool is somewhat harder to find than compost and peat moss. After rooting, as it says in the link, you basically want to give the clones seedling treatment to prevent them from drying out while they fully root. Standard cloning defoliation may also be applied (and probably should be) to keep the leaves from starving the plant.
When using the bubble cloner, what temp do you want to keep the res at, and other than superthrive, do you need to add anything else to the water in the res? For example, will adding rooting hormone powder to the water in the res increase the speed at which the clones develop roots? Thanks in advance for your answers!
Cloning is alot easier then you might think actually. I have used the same method for 5 years or so with almost 100 percent success. I use the Rapid rooter plugs and rootech cloning gel. I just cut lil 2-3 inch branches off and dip them in the cloning gel. Then stick it in the rapid rooter plug . I usually get the plug wet first before I insert the cutting. I dont scrape the stem or anything like that either. Im not saying that doesnt work , Im just saying what works best for me. I use a 7 inch humidity dome in a tray with a few fluorescent bulbs hangin an inch over the dome. I also keep a heat mat under the tray. I have found that the heat map cuts rooting time in half at least. Then I spray the clones every 3 hours or so until I see them rooting. Once they have rooted I transplant them and move them under the 400watt MH. Good luck .
Do you have any idea what the temp is that the heating pad generates? I have heard that my res in the bubbler will need to be anywhere from 70 to 80 deg. That's a pretty wide range, and I'd like to narrow down the correct temp. Thanks
i recently bought an aeroflo2 system and put fresh cuttings right into the net cups with hydroton. They have been in the system for 5 days and roots are already starting to form! The speed at which they are rooting beats my bubble cloner i had always used when growing soil. Oh and the nute solution in the system has clonex rooting solution and silica blast in it at a combined 500 ppm. peace
