Dying seedlings

What the heck. Anyway, before I realized how big of a problem this was with my new seeds...i planted them and they are a little over a week old. Now they are dying.

Hopefully the change to distilled water helps...what do you guys think? Too far gone to be saved?

  2. Bro, I would just toss them and start over with some distilled gallon jug water. What kind of light are you using? They really don't need much the first week.

  3. Yea..that sucks. I have a superstar led grow closet. The top has 2 t5 bulbs which is where the seedlings start out.

I also have 3 clones up there...hoping they turn out to be female..I've gotten different opinions.

The seeds I got were feminized royal gorilla, so those are the ones I killed. Pretty disappointing.

  4. Hon, that is "damping off". The pinched-looking stem is the hallmark of "damping off" fungus. It's a fungal disease of young seedlings and is always fatal. :frown: Sorry for your loss.

Prevention is your best bet. Before you put any more sprouted seeds into potting soil, do this- NUKE YOUR POTTING SOIL! Yep, put your damp potting soil in the microwave and heat it until it is steaming hot! Then let it cool completely before using it. This will kill the spores of "damping off" and sterilize the potting soil.

Your second line of defense should be a small fan blowing constantly and gently on your seedlings. This stirs the air and keeps it from getting stagnant and building up high levels of moisture, which fungi love! The gentle breeze also helps your seedlings to develop stronger stems.

After your seedlings are a couple weeks old, add some of a mycorrhizal fungi product, such as "Great White", to restore a healthy balance of soil micro-organisms.

    Hope that helps!

  5. Thanks for the reply. I have a hydroponic system so I was starting my seeds in rockwool. My first plant is a seed from a bag of weed and I grew that one in soil with no problems. Just waiting to find out if its male or female cause I pulled 3 clones off of it.

    Any idea?

  6. The cure is the same- things need to be sterile for seedlings!
