Dying Babies. Help!

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by billgee, Sep 23, 2011.

  1. My last two germinations have been Hellish, or is that Hellacious.

Planted 11 seeds (8 Kinds) last month. Got one survivor. Shes happy, thank you. Planted only six this time and only 2 kinds of seeds: 2 Sour 60s from MDanzig (1 popped and germed) and 4 Critical+ seeds from Dinafem (none popped). My first 2 germinations were almost 95%. I thought I had at least that part down. I thought I was doing it the same. Obviously not.

I use the standard method of 3 or 4 paper towels in 2 dinner plates. I dont use the shot glass. They usually start poppin as 36-48 hrs. These last 6 have been under for 96. 1 popped and germed, 5 didnt.
I use distilled water and keep it heated from below.

Help. Ive got 2 empty tents.:smoke:

  2. When you say, 2 paper towel method, what exactly do you do? I use a reg dinner plate with a small piece of thick cotton (it holds more moisture) seeds, then a paper towel over that then cover the plate with plastic wrap. Put in a warm dark place, but not to warm 86 to 90.

  3. Paper towel works well for people, but I am a fan of doing it mother nature style. Soak them in water for 12-24hrs. Then put into soil ( or whatever you grow in.) They only need to be about a 1/4 inch below the surface. Keep soil moist not too wet. Place in tray on heat mat. Under humidity dome, and wait.

  4. Thanks.
    Seems like an idea.

  5. Right.
    Im warming them too much.
    Thanks.:smoke:

  6. Thanks for your help.
Ive got problems with temp and pH.
Thanks for the help and good ideas.

  7. I typically have a 100% germ rate if the seeds are fresh. My method:

Drop seeds in a red party cup filled with filtered tap water. Cover the top with tin foil (to keep it dark). After 24 hours the seeds will sink. If they are still floating I give them a tap to see if they sink. Once they sink I pull them out of the cup of water. I then put them into a small tupperware container in between some sheets of paper towel that were moistened with the water from the part cup. I close up the tupperware but leave one corner unsealed. I then put this somewhere warm (~90F) and dark. For me the inside of a computer case or on top of my fridge work pretty good. 24-36 hours later all the seeds crack and show tap root. You can correct the pH of the water you use the germ the seeds but I have had good luck skipping the pHing. I only start worrying about pH once it is sown.

  8. Thanks all.

I have narrowed it down to heat , pH and, with the help of stealthboxit, technique.

    Will try again soon.

  9. Good luck with your endeavors man!

  10. I generally get @ 100 germination rate and I just plop the seeds into soil, no warming mat, no pre-soaking, nothing. just plop them 1/4" in a cup of soil that is slightly wet, and keep the top moist until they pop and treat them very well...ie no moving, shaking, bumping or showing off to friends.

  11. You may be right.
But Im gonna try the paper towel method. Im not good enough with keeping soil wet. Ive lost too many babies to dry soil.
    Thanks.
Ill try soil next as a last chance.
