Dwc what additives are needed

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by Mechanic, Jun 25, 2019.

  1. Hello folks fixing to start my first hydro grow in a bubble bucket already have 3 part an ph perfect nutes that iv been using in my outdoor grow . what other additives would be good for the bucket? I been looking at great white and have some calmag on the way. Any advice is greatly appreciated, take care my friends.

  2. I use general hydroponics 3 part flora series, CALiMAGic, Armor SI(silica) and PH up&down

  3. My opinion is that you need nothing else except pH up/dn.
A cheaper alternative to Great White is clorox, which kills root rot with chlorine rather than with beneficial bacteria.
I've been using it with good success.

    A few other things:
Most nute makers recommend way too much, and starting with 50% will avoid over-feeding problems.
DWC produces huge growth, using very little fertilzer, especially if following the Vapor Pressure Deficit chart.
If you decide to use the high humidity VPD chart recommends, you'll probably need a top fill ultrasonic humidifier.

  4. I got some gh ph up/ down. How much clorox you use?

  5. It dissipates quickly.
2 drops per gallon per day is what I use. I have a 4 oz tincture dropper bottle that I store some in.
    Have never had root rot.
Or bud rot from high humidity.

Chlorine is an element plants love. Humans, not so much.

Also, pH dn contains phosphoric acid, eliminating much (all?) of the need for high P "Bloom Boosters."

  7. What the fuck are you talking about man. Whatever you do don’t listen to this guy.... He’s smoked a little to much bleach weed it seems. Did you really just say PH down will replace a Bloom Booster? This is the reason I never smoke weed from random people. They grow it with anything they think will work.

Here’s some proof to ur bullshit. This plants been living off just water and a perfect Ph balance. If there’s no nutrients in the water the plant has nothing to eat it’s bound to die.

  9. Silica supplements like Rhino Skin if you want to stick with AN are great. I use Armor Si from GH. It's much stronger if you look at amount of active ingredient. I like a root bacterial and fungal supplement to keep bad growth out of the res. The Great White will work for that. Humic/Fulvic acid of some type and a sugar/carb supplement are good things to have.

  10. Lots of people use bleach or high strength peroxide in their hyro system to keep it sterile. That's not uncommon but many scientific trials have been done using root microbes and you get a faster growing plant using microbes compared to a sterile res but both methods work.

High strength hydro nutrients kill root microbes so you have to keep redosing them and work with the balance of nutrients to make them thrive. Sugar/carb supplements work. Don't put mollassas in a DWC bucket. Get a carb/sugar supplement made for DWC like budcandy.

  11. Kelp extract. Kelp has many micro nutrients and plant growth hormones.

  12. You must have misinterpreted my post.
The original question was what other additives besides the base nutes and CalMag are needed.
    I believe I gave a logical answer.

We agree that feeding plants nothing kills them.

  13. I appreciate the replies folks so rhino skin bud candy ,great white. I dont wanna run clorox just cause i hate dealing with clorox always splash it somewhere and im not always wear white tees lol do i need any of the root guard type products or does the great white cover that. Thanks again my friends take care

  14. Great White is sort of an all in one root zone supplement that has both fungus/bacteria, and boosters to help them thrive. Should be all you need as far as microbes.

  15. Ahh. Yes I thought we’re telling him to just run a bubble with PH and water... My bad. As for chlorine though still doesn’t seem great even though there’s been “tests” done. It’s far from “Organic weed” once you add chlorine though in my opinion.

  16. A few drops doesn't do much if anything to the plants. I often run a few drops in my clone machine because bad growth will delay or prevent rooting. The cleaner you can keep it the quicker you'll get roots.

There's two approaches to a DWC res. You can run it sterile or you can use beneficial microbes. If you do neither you're just waiting until you get bad growth because it will likely happen without any preventative measures like ether the right microbes or sterilizing compounds like bleach and peroxide.

  17. I ordered great white im going to give the beneficial route a go this time

  18. Like I said earlier there is extensive scientific trials on root microbes showing an increased growth rate over a sterile res.

You can think of the root system of a plant just like the digestive system of an animal. The roots in nature are full of microbes just like your gut that have a symbiotic relationship with the plants roots. They convert dead material to nutrients keeping the root zone clean and help the plant uptake nutrients faster.

A sterile res is sort of like the plant being on antibiotics all the time. It's going to interfere with it's digestion of nutrients in some way.

Another supplement group that helps the microbes do their job better is an enzyme. I use a product called hygrozyme but there are many others. I've been told that barely based pond clarifier is the same thing. The enzymes help bust up dead organic material in the root zone which is where your bad growth would start if you get any. Once the enzymes have broken down the dead material the bacteria convert it to nutrients. Enzymes just help speed up the process.

  19. Great White is probably one of the most highly reviewed microbe root zone supplements. It's been proven to work in side by side trials. Growmau5 did some on youtube back when he used to DIY lights on his videos. The side by side was pretty impressive. The Great White plants kicked the other's ass.

I use GH rapid start but I'm thinking I should pick up a new root microbe supplement. I've used several others in the past. Real Grower's Recharge is another one that is quite popular and very extensive in it's list of ingredients.
