Dugout making hash?

So I’ve been using the same dugout for years and I’m talking at least 12 years. I love it because it’s a nice hardwood and it has a built in magnetic poker in the bottom for easy cleaning. I recently had a ring of hard black stuff fall out when tipping out the bat and was curious if over time the crystals and other material were turning to hash. I have a pretty thick layer built up under the lid as well as inside of the box. Has anyone else had experience with this? I’m just curious and I couldn’t find shit for information anywhere else. I can provide pics if necessary but I’m about to get scraping so I can do a potency test haha.
